African American History Month

Galena Park Branch Library embraces the diversity of our community. In February we celebrate African American history month with a variety of programming.

Jalia Movement Arts will present, “I Hear the Drum”, Monday, February 4, 2019 at 4 PM. “I Hear the Drum”, is an African dance celebrating life and joy. The cultural movement will be explored in conjunction with history, highlighting its unique dance styles and music. This program is perfect for the whole family.

Maker Monday's at GP Library

I am really excited to announce our new Maker Monday program. Each Monday from 4-5 pm, we will explore a variety of S.T.E.M. projects that have been generously purchased by Port Houston. Thanks to community partners like Port Houston we are able to provide our customers with 21st century life skills like this. We will design with K’Nex build sets, complete basic circuits, and program robots. These are just a few of the things we are going to be doing, we hope to keep our makerspace growing!

Teen Open Mic Summer Series

Open MicLibraries Rock will feature an open mic segment for local teens to come and express themselves. We will provide the audio equipment and light snacks for performers and artists. Feel free to share a poem reading, an acoustic guitar solo, or even some dance moves. Everyone wishing to perform is encouraged to contact Naomi Macias at gp@hcpl.net for more information. During this time we will also offer Karaoke in between performers, so everyone can participate. Teen Open Mic is scheduled for Tuesday's at 6 pm during our Summer Reading Program.
