Join us for an Open House for Teens interested in Summer Volunteering

Just a reminder - we'll be having an Open House on Saturday, April 14 from 2-3 pm in the Children's Activity Space for teens interested in summer volunteering.  Teens and parents are invited to drop by and find out what teen volunteers do in the summer at Freeman Library in the Children's Department.  Stop by and pick up a volunteer application.  We'll be taking applications through Thursday, May 10.

Celebrate National Library Week with a bookmark craft on Wednesday, April 11 at 4:30 pm

This week is National Library Week!  School-aged children are invited to visit Freeman this Wednesday, April 11 at 4:30 pm for an Afterschool Craft.  We'll be making a fun bookmark to use when devouring all the great books that children can check out from Harris County Public Library.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Children's Department holds Open House for teen volunteers on Saturday, April 14 from 2-3 PM

It's almost summertime.  That means lots of library fun for children and teen volunteers!  The Children's Department is accepting applications for teen volunteers.  To learn more about summer volunteer opportunities, teens and their parents are invited to an Open House on Saturday, April 14 from 2-3 pm.   

If a teen is unable to attend on April 14, applications are available at the Kids Information Desk or at http://www.hcpl.net/sites/default/files/volapp.pdf.   Applications will be taken through Thursday, May 10.  For questions about the Open House or volunteering, please call 281-488-1906 and ask for the Children's Department.

April Programs in the Children's Department

Now that springtime is in full bloom, get out in the fresh air and join us for some fun children's programs this month.   Toddler Time is held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 11:15 am.   It is for children 18 months to 3 years old along with a parent or caregiver.   Preschool Storytime is held on Tuesday & Wednesday at 1:30 pm.  It is for children 3-5 years old along with a parent or caregiver.  Twilight Tales is held every Thursday night at 6:30 pm.  It is a storytime that follows the themes of the toddler and preschool storytimes.  It is designed for preschool age on up.   All storytimes require tickets.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.   Here are the themes f...

Books Alive! Week - Baby Playtime on Friday, March 16 at 10:00 am

   Looking for something to do with your child under 18 months of age?  Join us on Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 am  for Baby Playtime.  We'll have fun books, toys, and bubbles.   No tickets are required for this program.  Just come to the Children's Activity Space to mingle with other parents of babies and have some fun...

Books Alive! Week - Tuesday - Spring Crafts in Children's Department

Looking for something crafty for the children to do on Tuesday afternoon?  Join us as we celebrate Spring Break with some fun crafts.  We'll be making a cute inchworm and a colorful butterfly from clothespins at 2:30 pm.  The butterfly will be doubly fun because it will have snack items inside (cereal and dried fruit) that can be eaten later!  Tickets are required.  They are free and available in the Children's Department starting 30 minutes before the program.

Books Alive! Week - Learn about Wiggly, Wonderful WORMS! on Monday, March 12 at 2:30 pm

 Before you start your Spring garden with the children, join us Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm for "Wiggly, Wonderful WORMS!".  Nature educator Ellen Hutto of Saltgrass Science will be here to talk about the importance of worms to the garden and composting,  We'll have lots of great books on worms and gardening to check out.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Books Alive! Week coming soon

    The signs of spring are popping up everywhere: flowers are blooming, humidity is rising, and children are eagerly anticipating CCISD's Spring Break!   If you're looking for some fun for the family, join us for Books Alive! Week.  Sponsored by the Friends of Freeman Library, this annual event features special programs each day of the week.   The programs will run March 12-16 this year.  

Monday, March 12 - 2:30 pm - Wiggly, Wonderful WORMS! - educator Ellen Hutto of Saltgrass Science talks about why worms are important for the garden.

Dr. Seuss Birthday Party on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 pm

Join us for a special Twilight Tales on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 PM.  We'll be saying "Happy Birthday to You" as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss with fun stories and activities.  This program is designed for preschool age children and their families or caregivers.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Afterschool Craft: Get Ready for the Rodeo on Wednesday, February 29 at 4:30 pm

    

We're calling all young cowgirls and cowboys to a craft roundup on Wednesday, February 29 at 4:30 pm.  We'll be making a scratch-off sheriff's badge and a fun cactus kitchen magnet.  To join this wagon train, tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting thirty minutes before the program.
