Homeschoolers: Cast a vote for your favorite Texas Bluebonnet Award book on Monday, January 27

Homeschooled children who would be in grades 3-6 are invited to come to Freeman Library on Monday, January 27 to cast a vote for their favorite book nominated for Texas Bluebonnet Award.  We'll have a ballot box at the Kids Information Desk all day on Monday.   The winning book will be announced by the Texas Library Association in April.  We will keep you posted on the winner.

Calling all babies for Baby Playtime on Friday, January 17@10:00 am

 Join us this Friday morning 1/17 for Baby Playtime in the Children's Activity Space from 10:00-11:00 am.   This program is designed for children from infants through 18 months old along with a parent or other caregiver.

We will have board books, toys, music, and bubbles!  This  program does not require tickets, so just drop in with your baby.  You'll get to meet other parents and their babies.

Be a Healthy Reader: Meet members of the Clear Lake High School Cross Country Team on Monday 1/13 @ 4:30 pm

   Members of the Clear Lake High School Cross Country Team and their coach will visit 
Freeman Library on Monday 1/13 at 4:30 pm.  They will talk about cross country running and show some of the exercises they use to prepare for this type of running.  This program is designed for children ages 5-12 years old.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Open House for Teen Volunteers on Monday, January 6 @ 2 pm

      Did you or your teen make a New Year's resolution for the teen to volunteer more in the community?  If so, we have a great chance for teens to get started.  On Monday, January 6 from 2-3 pm, teens and parents are invited to an Open House for teen volunteers.  The Open House is for teens who are interested in volunteering in the Children's Department over the next few months. 

USA LEGO Robotics Camp returns in February

   The USA LEGO Robotics Camp returns this February for four Saturdays (February 1, 8, 15 and 22).  This free camp is for children 7-11 years old.  The children work together in pairs or small groups to use a program on a laptop to put together fun LEGO projects.  There's a different LEGO project each week.  The camp is coordinated by a middle school teacher who talks to the children about the science and engineering concepts they'll be using in the projects.

January Programs for Children

     Start out 2014 by attending one of our Children's programs.  We have programs for children from infants to 92!   We will continue our regular storytime programs on Mondays-Wednesdays: Toddler Time (children 18 months-3 years) on Mondays at 11:15 am and Tuesdays at 10:15 and 11:15 am; Preschool Storytime (children 3-5 years) on Tuesday and Wednesdays at 1:30 pm and Book Babies (children infants to 18 months) on Wednesdays at 10:15 am and 11:15 am.  Tickets are required for these and most other programs.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.  For programs starting at 10:15 am, we start giving out tickets as soon as we open at 10:00 am.

Create a Gingerbread House

   A Freeman Library tradition returns...join us for Gingerbread House Decorating on Monday, December 16; Tuesday, December 17 and Wednesday, December 18 at 4:30 pm.  This program is designed for children 3-12 years old. 

All supplies for the gingerbread houses (milk cartons, graham crackers, frosting, and lots of goodies) are free and provided through the generous donations of Oak Farms Dairy and the Friends of Freeman Library.

Tickets are required.  They are free and available from the Kids Information Desk starting thirty minutes before the program. 

December Events for Children

       December will be a busy month in the Children's Department.  Here are some of the fun and festive programs for children to enjoy.

Monday, December  2 - children 5-12 years old will decorate a holiday picture frame at 4:30 pm.  Tickets for this free program will be given out starting 30 minutes before the starting time.

Afterschool Program: Make a colorful paper garland for Thanksgiving!

   Thinking of decorating your table or hearth for the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities?  If you have children 5-12 years old, we have a fun and colorful decoration they can make for your holiday celebration.   We'll be making a paper garland featuring pictures of gourds and corn that the children will color.   This program will be on Monday, November 18 at 4:30 pm.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

 

Baby Playtime on Friday, November 15

     Looking to get out with your baby and enjoy the cooler November air?  Join us this coming Friday morning - November 15 - for Baby Playtime from 10:00-11:00 am.   This program is designed for children from infants through 18 months old and a parent or caregiver.

We will have lots of fun toys, music, board books, and bubbles for babies to catch!  No tickets are needed for this program.  You are welcome to just drop in the Children's Activity Space starting at 10 am when we open.
