Looking for something to do this Thursday afternoon?  Thomas Davis "The Snakeman" wowed audiences this summer with his amazing assortment of snakes.  Mr. Davis returns this Thursday, October 3 for special program at 2:30 pm.  The Snakeman talks about each snake and then lets the audience have an up-close view of the snake.

October Events for Children

It is hard to believe we're over a month into the school year.  If you are looking for something for your school-age child to do, we have several programs in October designed for children 5-12 years old.  Each program requires tickets. The tickets are free and given out 30 minutes before the program.

There's a mystery in the Children's Department...

Psst...there's some books in the Children's Department that some people may not want you to see.  They're covered completely in brown paper.  If you'd like to solve this mystery, stop by our  Banned Books display and find out what's going on out there.

Elizabeth Hunt, a Children's librarian, does a display each year in observance of Banned Books Week (this year it's September 22-28).  The display is to inform parents, children and other adults about books that have been banned or challenged in libraries around the country.  The books are wrapped in brown paper, but there's a red flap you can pull up to find out about the book and the story behind the challenge or banning.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Children and adults are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this Thursday, September 19 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Community Room.  There will be fun crafts, festive music, challenging activity sheets and a colorful pinata!  This program is funded by the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library.

Help our dragon grow!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month.  This year we have a dragon hanging out on the bulletin board in the Children's Activity Space.  During storytimes this month, we will ask children to show their library card.  If they have a library card, they can put their name on a paper dragon scale.  We will be adding the scales to the dragon and we hope to have so many that the dragon will take up the whole bulletin board...

Ancient Art Afterschool Program returns in September

Are you looking for a creative activity for your upper elementary age child to kick off the new school year?  If so, you may be interested in the Ancient Art Afterschool Program on Mondays September 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 4:30-5:30 pm.  This program was offered in the spring and is returning with the same educational and fun art projects.

This program is for children 10 years and up.  The children will learn about the art of several ancient cultures and they will make art projects such as cave paintings, clay pots, dot painting, and mosaics.   This is a "hands-on" program, so children will need to have a smock or old shirt to protect their clothing.
