Maker Monday: Join us for Lego Free Play at 4:30 pm

   Children 5-12 years old will enjoy Maker Monday on Monday, March 20 at 4:30 pm.  This afterschool program features a different activity or crafts each week.This week will be Lego Free Play.  We'll have LEGO kits set out with suggestions for some fun building pojrects to make.

Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.  The Lego kits for this program are provided though the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library.

Books Alive! Week 2017 Ends on Friday, March 17th

  Friday is the last official day of Freeman Library's Books Alive! Week for 2017.  We've had a great turnout for fun programs such as Mondays visit from Marsha's Petting Zoo with a surprise visit from HEB's Buddy and Wednesday's face painting and balloon animals from Party Animals with a surprise superhero visitor.   For Friday, we finish off Books Alive! Week with sidewalk chalk on the Diana Lane side of the library from 2:30-3:30 pm.  If the rain shows up, we'll stay in the Children's Department with coloring sheets and fun with markers and stencils.    For tweens aged 8-12 years old, there will be tabletop games from 4:00-5:00 pm in the Children's Activity Space.  Tickets will be given out at 3:30 pm.   

Books Alive! Week 2017 starts Monday, March 13

  :Looking for something fun and free to do during Spring Break?  Well, Freeman Library continues with the tradition of having a program on each day of the week during Spring Break (3/13/17 - 3/17/17).  These programs, along with many throughout the year, are sponsored through the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library.  Here are the upcoming programs in the Children's Department:

Monday, March 13 - Marsha's Petting Zoo  - over 20 adorable animals such as deer, ducks, a llama, and more at 2:30-4 pm on the Diana Lane side of the LIbrary.  No tickets needed - just a little patience waiting in line.

Baby Playtime on Friday, March 10 at 10:00 am

Children from infants through 18 months old will enjoy hanging out with other babies and their grown ups this Friday, March 10 at 10:00 am at Baby Playtime.   This fun program features board books, toys, and lots of bubbles.   We'll be doing a fun springtime art project.  Best of all - no tickets are needed for this program.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program throughout the years with new toys to explore.

Bi-Lingual English/Chinese Storytime on Monday, March 6 @ 10:15 am

Join us Monday morning March 6 at 10:15 am for Bi-Lingual English/Chinese Storytime.  This program features stories and songs in English and Chinese.    The program will end with a fun craft of making a fish.   Recommended for children 3-5 years old.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available when we open at 10:00 am.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, March 2 @ 6:00 pm

Children and their grown ups are invited to Freeman's monthly Pajama Storytime on Thursday, March 2 at 6:00 pm.  This fun family outing is held on the first Thursday of the month.  The program features stories, songs, and fingerplays as well as a craft or activity at the end of the program.  Children are welcome to wear pajamas and bring a snuggly blanket or stuffed toy.

Tickets are required. They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 5:30 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support of this program.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Freeman children are invited to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss on Thursday, March 2 at 4:30 pm.  Schools, libraries, and bookstores around the world are celebrating on this same day.   We'll have fun crafts, games, and a special treat to celebrate his many contributions to children's literature.

This program is designed for children of all ages.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available in the Children's Department starting at 4:00 pm.  Due to the popularity of this program, we recommend that children and their grown up arrive 15-20 minutes before the tickets are to be distributed.  Special thanks to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support of this program each year.

March Programs in the Children's Department

The Children's Department kicks off March with a number of fun programs.  Join us we hop through the month from program to program:

Thursday, March 2 - Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration "Read Across America" at 4:30 pm for children 3-12 years old.  Wel'll  have crafts and activities to celebrate the birthday of one of children's literature's most celebrated authors - Dr. Seuss.  Tickets required.  They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program.  Later, join us for Pajama Storytime at 6 pm.  This storytime for the whole family encourages children to wear their jammies and/or bring a favorite stuffed toy.  Tickets given out at 5:30 pm.

Mardi Gras fun at Freeman Library on Thursday, February 23 @ 4:30 pm

     The Children's Department will be having a crafts program on Thursday, February 23 @ 4:30 pm to make Mardi Gras masks and a festive Mardi Gras wreath to get ready for the Mardi Gras parades this weekend.  In addition to the crafts, children will get a treat of chocolate doubloons and a pair of beads and there will be some fun activity sheets.   This program is recommended for children 3-12 years old.  Tickets are required.  They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program.

Children: Join us in celebrating African American Heritage Month today at 4:30 pm

 The Children's Department will be observing African American History Month today at 4:30 pm with a crafts program for children ages 3-12 years old.   We will be making a colorful wreath in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and a paper weaving craft.  We'll have a tasty snack of potato chips and a graham cracker "traffic signal" inspired by African American inventors.  Additionally, we'll have activity sheets and a variety of books available for checkout.  Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.
