Check out our "UnBeelievable" Bulletin Board during Books Alive! Week

Looking for fun activities for the children to do during Spring Break?  The Friends of Freeman Library sponsor a week of programs each year called Books Alive! Week.  As with all other programs, there is no charge for any of the events.   Most programs do require a ticket.  The tickets are given out 30 minutes before the program, except for programs that begin at 10:15 am -those tickets are given out when we open at 10:00 am. 

Read Across America Celebration: Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

The Children's Department celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday on Thursday, March 3 at 4:30 pm.  The birthday celebration features crafts, activities, books, and treats inspired by  Dr. Seuss books!  This program is recommended for all ages.  Tickets are required.  They are free and given out starting 30 minutes before the program.   Thanks to the Friends of Freeman for supporting this fun birthday celebration.

Children's Department celebrates African American History Month on Thursday, February 25

The Children's Department celebrates African American History Month this Thursday, February 25 at 4:30 pm.  This program is recommended for children 3-12 years old.  We'll have crafts, music, activities, and tasty treats inspired by inventions of African Americans.  Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and they will be distributed at 4:00 pm.  We recommend that children and their adult arrive 15-20 minutes before the tickets are to be distributed.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their support with this program.

Make a cute bear during Maker Monday

Children 5-12 years old can make a cute bear this Monday, February 22 during Maker Monday at 4:30 pm.  This weekly afterschool program features an activity or craft.  The fourth Monday of the month is the craft program.  Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting the purchase of the materials for this program. 

Reading Buddies drawing registration has been extended through February 10

The deadline for registering for a drawing for spots in Reading Buddies has been extended through Wednesday, February 10.  Reading Buddies is a new program that will pair a child in 1st through 3rd grade with a caring adult to give the child additional practice with reading.  The 45 minute program will be on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30 pm at Freeman.  It begins March 1 and runs through May 25 - there will be no session during Spring Break week.

February Programs in Children's Department

We're six days into February, but there's still plenty of fun programs in the Children's Department.  In addition to our regular storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, we have Maker Monday on Mondays at 4:30 pm.  This program is for children 5-12 years old.  This program features either an activity or a craft.  Tickets are required.  They are given out 30 minutes before the program.

New Program: Reading Buddies starts at Freeman Library

Freeman Library begins Reading Buddies, a new program for children in 1st-3rd grade to get more practice with reading.  This program pairs a child with a caring adult to practice reading and do fun literacy activities.  The program will be on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm at Freeman Library.   Each session is 45 minutes. The program begins Tuesday, March 1 and runs for 12 sessions through May 25 (there will be no session during Spring Break), .

Fun Children's Programs to End January

Here are a few fun programs to end the first month of the year.   We continue with the weekly Maker Monday programs at 4:30 pm.  This afterschool program is for children 5-12 years old.  It features an activity or craft.  Today, children will be making a winter suncatcher.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.

Baby Playtime returns to Freeman Library this Friday, January 15 @ 10:00 am!

Babies from infants through 18 months old have somewhere to be this Friday, January 15 at 10:00 am!  They and their parent or caregiver are invited to hang out in the Children's Activity Space for Baby Playtime.  This program is held several times a year as a special chance for babies and their adults to spend time together with board books, fun toys, and bubbles.   We also will have an art project for the babies and we will debut a new item for the babies to explore!   No tickets are needed for this program.  A special thanks to the Friends of Freeman Library for their continued support for this program through the fun items we're able to purchase.

January brings more fun programs for children

Freeman children can start off the new year by attending a fun program this month.  On Mondays, we continue with Maker Monday programs for children 5-12 years old at 4:30 pm.  These weekly afterschool programs feature an activity or a craft.  On Thursday January 28, children 5-12 years old can help us get ready for Mardi Gras by decorating a shoebox float at 4:30 pm.  Tickets are required for these programs.  They are free and given out 30 minutes before the program.
