Join us for Baby Playtime on Friday, May 24 from 10:00-11:00 am

         Looking for a chance to visit with other babies and their parents?  Join us this Friday, May 24 from 10:00-11:00 am for Baby Playtime.  This program is designed for children from infants to 18 months old and their parent or caregiver.  

We'll have books, toys, music and bubbles.  No tickets are required.  Just bring your baby and have some fun!

Just a reminder - we will have only one session of Book Babies next Wednesday, May 29.  The session will be at 11:15 am.  We will start giving out tickets at 10:45 am.  This program is for children from infants to 18 months old.   In June, we will return to our regular two sessions of Book Babies each Wednesday (10:15 & 11:15 am).

Children: Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month with a fish craft and lots more fun!

        Freeman Library will be celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month on Wednesday afternoon May 22 with activities that the whole family can enjoy.   This year's spotlighted country is India.   The activities will be held in the Community  Room from 4:30-7:00 pm.  No tickets are needed for this program - just drop on in.

The activities include learning to wrap a sari, henna designs and a fun fish craft.  There also will be music and coloring sheets.    This program is made possible by the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library. 

Spin Art Program for Children on Monday, May 20@ 4:30 pm

Jennifer Reichardt of Bricks4Kidz brings lots of fun and colorful Lego bricks to Freeman Library on Monday, May 20 at 4:30 pm.  Children ages 5-11 years old will learn about the concept of centrifugal force as they put together a spin machine.  They'll use it to create a spin art project.

Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

 

The Countdown to the Summer Reading Program!

       May is a big month for libraries with Harris County Public Library.  We're getting ready for one of our busiest seasons - summer.   The 2013 Summer Reading Program for Harris County kicks off in 25 days on Monday, June 3.  Freeman Library will start having special Thursday afternoon programs for children in 28 days on Thursday, June 6.

Change in today's (May 6) ladybug program in Children's Department

         The "Lucky Ladybugs"  program scheduled for 4:30 pm has been postponed.  However, we will have a ladybug craft program in its place.  This afterschool program is recommended for children from 5-12 years old.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk  starting 30 minutes before the program.  For questions, please call 281-488-1906.

Lucky Ladybugs Program on Monday, May 6 at 4:30 pm

    Ellen Hutto of Saltgrass Science will talk about ladybugs on Monday, May 6 at 4:30 pm.  This program is recommended for children 5-12 years old.  The children will learn about ladybugs and how to spot them in the yard.  Each child will get a few ladybugs to release in their neighborhood.  Space is limited and tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

The blocks are back in town...

    May is block month around the Children's Department at Freeman Library.  Children are invited to build something with our wooden blocks.  We have a shelf filled with blocks of all shapes and sizes.  They will be out through the month of May.  In June, we will bring back a puppet stage with hand puppets.   Each month we rotate the puppet stage and the blocks.  These two creative outlets have been a great hit at Freeman Library.    They are two of the many fun and educational items made possible through the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library.

May Activities for Children

  While school-aged children are winding down the school year, we have several programs this month to get them ready for the library's busy season --- summer!!!

Monday, May 6 (4:30 pm) - Lucky Ladybugs - Ellen Hutto from Saltgrass Science will talk to children aged 5-12 years old about ladybugs and she will give them some ladybugs to release around their home.

Monday, May 13 (4:30 pm) - Maze of Bones Book Party - Children aged 8-11 years old will learn about this 39 Clues book and participate in some fun activities.

Monday, May 20 (4:30 pm) - Bricks4Kidz - Spin Art - Children 5-11 years old will use Lego bricks to make a project.

Celebrate Earth Day with Recycled Crafts!

        The Children's Department will be celebrating Earth Day on Monday, April 22 at 4:30 pm with some fun crafts made from recycled materials: egg cartons, stickers, beads and lots of other items.  Children ages 5 and above are encouraged to come and let their imagination lead them in making fun items.

Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Teens: Volunteer @ Freeman Library this summer!

       Teens: Are you 14 years or older?  Do you like to read?  Do you like being around younger children and encouraging them?  Do you like working on a computer?  If you said yes to all these questions, then please fill out an application to volunteer in the Children's Department this summer.
