Anime For Youth

It’s a new year for the Aldine Branch and with a new year comes new activities. Teens, we know that there are a bunch of you out there who enjoy anime and manga. In fact, there are so many of you that we’ll be getting together in the meeting room at 3:30pm the first and third Thursday of every month to explore what we love—manga and anime. For those who are pretty handy with a calendar then you know that this Thursday will be our first meeting of the year. See you there!

The Rainbow Connection

We are not sure if this is definitive proof that you find riches at the end of the rainbow, but it is good enough for the staff at the Aldine Branch Library. At the very least it is a fitting end to a wonderful year. Not only is there new equipment to enhance your visit to the building, but turnout for programs has been impressive as well for both children and teen events. You guys are definitely using the library and we love it! We're so excited about what's to come in 2011 and we hope you are as well.

Self Checkouts: Come and Check Them Out!

Aldine teen, Yesenia Aguirre, successfully operates one of the Aldine Branch’s new self checkout machines. There are two kinds of people in this world. There are those who use a cashier to check out at the grocery store and there are those who use the self checkouts. No matter which one you are you can always come to the Aldine Branch Library. That’s because customers now have the option of checking out your items at our information desk or using our newly installed self checkout machines. Staff will always be available to help you with your needs, but sometimes you come to the library with a simply agenda—grab a book off the shelf, check it out and go. If that’s the case then just use one of the new machines where you can do the job yourself.

Chiptunes: A Recap

During Teen Read Week this year the Aldine Branch Library hosted a free chiptunes demonstration for the teens. The program was amazing and everyone had a great time. It was one of our largest turnouts of the year. Much thanks goes to the artist, Sievert, for coming out and meeting the kids. Not only did he rock, but he answered the million of great questions asked. Anyway we finally got some footage up, so check it out.

Web 2.Yo! is on the Move

Moving Boxes
This past year of Web 2.Yo! has been a blast. We’ve gotten lost in some really great music, stared in short films, painted masterpieces, and so much more without leaving our computers. And all for free! Each Wednesday teens have gotten together to hunt for some really great sites and now it is time to shake things up a bit by meeting on a new day. Starting Monday, December 6th, Web 2.Yo! will gather in the Aldine Branch meeting room from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. We hope you can join us.

Have You Thought About College?

Graduate in Cap and GownA very special edition of Web 2.Yo! is coming. We will look at sites that can help you plan for a future with your higher education. Do you know what you want to study or even where? And how can you pay for it all? This would be a wonderful time to start considering those things. We’ll show you some useful resources as well as tips for navigating those resources.

Plus, as an opportunity to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month a portion of the program will focus on resources for those of Hispanic origin. So be here at 4:00 PM on September 29th for all the great info!

Volun-TEENS

Teen With Books

Teens, sadly school is back in session. You probably find yourself busy with your lessons and clubs. Your school may require you to do some volunteer work in your community as well. The Aldine Branch Library at the moment is looking for a few teen volunteers. It can be a wonderful opportunity for those who are hard workers and love to give back to the community. Volunteering at the library also looks great on résumés and applications, so think about it and let us know. Don’t think too long though because we can only accommodate so many. Space is limited.

Web 2.Yo! Gets Animated

Teens, do you like cartoons? Did you know that you can make cartoons on the Internet and it's free. You don't even have to be able to draw. You just need an imagination? I even made one, watch.

Though Summer Ends the Fun Doesn't at Aldine
