This year’s Summer Traveling Series has been a great one. We’ve learned a lot about places like Japan, New Zealand, Argentina, and Norway. We will be ending our travels with a visit to Ireland. On Monday, July 29, we will be joined by a nationally award-winning poet and genealogy blogger, Lisa "Smallest Leaf", who will share what her extensive research on Ireland has taught her.
Teens, join us this Saturday for a Holi inspired water war. Using the pigments from the Indian festival of Holi we will engage in a colorful battle sure to brighten your day. NOTE: The pigments used during Holi WILL stain clothing and may temporarily dye skin or hair. DRESS ACCORDINGLY.
We will gather at 3:00pm in front of the Glass Display Case on the 1st floor and then walk to the field behind the staff parking lot. Wet teens will NOT be allowed back into the library unless they change to dry clothes. The Library closes at 5:00pm on Saturdays. A signed permission form is required to participate. See the reference desk on the second floor for paperwork. We’ll see you there!
You think Scandinavia is cool, but you wish you knew more? Have no fear. You’ll do just that with the next stop on our summer traveling series, Vikings Don't Wear Crowns: The Development of Kingship in Scandinavia. This free talk, sponsored by the Norwegian Society of Texas, will enlighten and entertain as it covers a very fascinating spot in the world.
And don’t forget that we will have a door prize drawing for a $20 gift card to a local bookstore. See you Monday, July 15th, at 2pm in the Earl Elliott Room.
With Japan and New Zealand crossed off our list, it is now time to enjoy Argentina. Don’t miss out on another informative and entertaining presentation by AAUW Travelmania. Participants will also get another shot at winning a $20 gift card to a local bookstore courtesy of the Barbara Bush Library Friends. We will see you Monday, July 1st, at 2pm.
Meet Reneé. Reneé is our latest door prize winner for our Summer Traveling Series. Her name was drawn to win a $20 gift card to a local bookstore while attending AAUW’s presentation on New Zealand. There are three more chances to win, so don’t miss out. We'll see you on Monday, July 1st, at 2pm.
We’ve already enjoyed our trip to Japan and now, with our Summer Traveling Series, we’re off to New Zealand. Join us as the AAUW’s Travelmania group presents an introduction to the county of New Zealand. You will not only get to see the wonderful sights of this beautiful country, you will also learn about visiting from an experienced traveler.
Plus, you will have a chance to win a $20 gift card from a local bookstore at the end of the presentation. We’ll see you on Monday, June 17th, at 2pm in the Earl Elliott Room.
We had our first program from our Summer Travel Series on Monday and it was a ton of fun. Thanks to the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) we were able to learn so much about Japan. Kanji, yukatas, origami—it was all covered. Thank you for visiting the library, Mr. Tsuruta!
Also we drew for a $20 gift card to a local bookstore, which was exciting. Don't forget that there are four more programs this summer. That means there are four more chances to win a $20 gift card. Good luck!
As you know by now, the Barbara Bush Branch Library is hosting an International Exploration Series for adults, where our first stop will be Japan. Did you know though that there will be a door prize given away as well? That’s right. Those who attend the program will be entered to win a $20 gift card for a local bookstore. We’ll draw the name at the end of the presentation and one lucky winner will walk away with the gift card right then and there. How cool is that?
That’s not all. A winner will be picked at all five of our presentations. Check our calendar for all the dates. Don’t you want to be one of the lucky five?
A couple of weeks ago the branch held a party to thank our volunteers. In addition to getting to know one another better, library staff hosted a murder mystery game where literary characters where the suspects. A great time was had by all. To commemorate the occasion we put this video together.
The Barbara Bush Branch Library would like to thank E.B.O.N.Y. for co-sponsoring the African American Read-In at the Cypress Creek Community Center. A great time was had by all. We hope you can join us next year. Also, thank you to all the authors who came this year to speak:
