Teens, school for Aldine ISD starts on Monday. It will be a busy day. There will be new subjects to study, new textbooks to read, and new friends to make. Once it is over, you'll need to wind down and what better way to do so than with a movie? That's right. The Aldine Branch will be showing a movie to celebrate the first day of school. The show starts at 3PM in the meeting room and we'll see you there. And bring that new friend you made along with you.
Good news! In partnership with Precinct 1, HCPL offers computer classes, PCs for public access, and WiFi services at Lincoln Park. This is a great opportunity for those who wish to strengthen his/her computer skills. Remember though, this is a technology lab. To check out materials please visit the Aldine Branch Library.
The teens at the Aldine Branch have been hard at work on their latest project. With the help of on-line sources, like ujam, they have been able to convert their recordings of popular poetry into original musical scores. What does that mean? Well, what you are hearing when you listen to the pieces is their voice converted into a musical instrument. Pretty cool, right?
The new series is being called Poetry Jam and make sure you don't miss the other works as we release them in the coming weeks. First up--checkout Daniela's take on an Edgar Allan Poe classic. She really captures the anxiety his work typically conjures up, if you ask us.
Inspired by the beautiful mural on the outside of the Aldine Branch building, the teens of the library decided to create their own murals inside for all to enjoy. They didn't want to put their art on the walls though because according to them, "That's been done." So the next time you find yourself browsing the Manga in the our Young Adult area look up and take in what we're calling Shelf Murals!
This is being considered the first phase in a, uh, teen beautification project, if you will. Be sure to be on the on the lookout for other works and updates as the teens get inspired.
Teens, we're breaking out the iPads and other devices for a special edition of Web2.Yo! this Monday (July 23rd). That means instead of previous classes where we've discovered new and awesome Web sites on laptops we'll be looking at some of the coolest apps around. This will be a great time to get some hands-on time with iPads, so don't miss out! See you at 3pm.
Teens, this Monday's Web 2.Yo! will be a very special music edition. Come and learn about sites that will help you discover new music, learn more about the music you already love, and create music that others will love. And you don't even have to be musically inclined!
The doors to the meeting room open at 3pm and space is limited.
If you follow the Aldine Branch on Twitter, then you know that we participated again in last month's Houston Art Car Parade. As always, it was a blast. For the fourth year in a row the branch was there with an art book cart. To celebrate the achievement our teen volunteers created a little video for your enjoyment.
If you are having trouble viewing this video then you can watch it here.
Teens, the Young Adult area of the Aldine Branch Library is getting a bit of a makeover and here's a sneak peek of what to expect. Volunteers have been busy creating art to fill the area with some color. Installation will start this summer and will continue to grow throughout the year, so stop by anytime to witness the progress.
As you know, the teens at the Aldine Branch library won the People's Choice Award in this year's HPL Reel Teen Film Festival. For winning, their book trailer was screened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston last week for all to see. The teens also took questions from the audience. Check out Aldine's twitter feed to see how the night unfolded.
Also, just because it is summer don't assume the teens are taking time off. Be on the lookout for some other projects they have in the works!
