Look Out for Lions!

If you missed it we had lots of fun last Saturday at the Maud Marks Asian Pacific Heritage Festival!  Performers and patrons came from all over the area to make crafts, sample food, and watch the lions dance for a finale.  

Summer Volunteer Applications Now Available!

If you’re in junior high or above and are looking for a way to help out this summer come and volunteer at the Maud Marks Library!  Application packets are available now at the information desk and are due on May 19.  This summer we have two sessions, so just pick one and give us the information when you return your completed application.  Orientation information is also available in the packet.  Thanks very much for your help!

 

 

Volunteer Orientation at Maud Marks April 10 at 7pm

Are you interested in volunteering at the Maud Marks Branch Library?  We are currently accepting applications for new volunteers who are in high school and above.  Our mandatory new volunteer orientation is on Tuesday, April 10 at 7pm.  Pick up an application at the information desk or you can print one

If you’re interested in volunteering this summer we start accepting applications for summer volunteers on May 1.  Stay tuned for more information. Thanks!

Spring Craft Today at Maud Marks!

If you know an elementary-aged child who likes art be sure to come to the Afternoon Art program! It's today, March 28, at 4:30 pm in the meeting room and we'll be using tissue paper and glue to make pictures that look like watercolor paintings.  This event is free thanks to support from the Friends of the Maud Marks Library. 

Senior Moments: Researching on Medline Plus

Are you interested in learning more about reliable medical information available for free on the internet? The Maud Marks Library will be hosting a special class for seniors and mature adults about finding consumer medical information on MedlinePlus, the government’s medical website. Seating is extremely limited. Pre-registration is required.

Book Sale at Maud Marks This Weekend!

 

The next Friends of Maud Marks Library book sale is this Saturday, February 25 from 10 am to 4 pm!  There are lots of books for adults and children and most are $1 or less!  Also if you join the Friends you can attend the preview sale which is Friday, February 24 from 4:30-6 pm.  A one-year membership is $10 for an individual or $25 for a family.  Proceeds from the book sales go towards supporting the library, including programs like the Texas Heritage Festival.

 

Celebrate Black History Month with Great Music!

  

This Thursday, Feb 16 at 1pm join us at the Maud Marks Branch Library for a Jazz and Poetry program.  Jazz Education Inc. will be here to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to our nation’s culture. Through music and poetry this 45 minute program is an inspirational lesson that celebrates the historic contribution and achievements of great Americans including Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Don’t miss this fun and free event sponsored by the Friends of the Maud Marks Library!

Celebrate the New Year with Afternoon Art!

Join us at the Maud Marks Branch Library for our next Afternoon Art project!  All school-aged children are invited to come on Wednesday, January 25 at 4:30 pm to make cherry blossoms.  Craft materials are provided so be sure to join us for this fun and free event!

Tax Forms Are Here!

Most of the IRS tax forms are available in our lobby for you to pick up.  We’re still waiting on the 1040 forms and instructions but they should be here around the end of January; in the meantime they are available on the IRS website.  Also keep in mind that the AARP will be back starting in February to assist with tax preparation.  Stay tuned to this blog for more information!
