Reading Girl

Tsculpture of a girl propped up on her elbows while reading a bookhis lovely young lady was donated to the Evelyn Meador Branch by Charles and Winifred Swiler in memory of their son Brian Swiler.  Mrs. Swiler said that she hopes the art piece helps others to enjoy the library as much as she and her husband do.  Reading Girl is watching over our Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees section for us.  Please drop by and say hello to her in person.

Storytime at The Rotary Club of Seabrook

A little bird sent this picture of me doing storytime for The Rotary Club of Seabrook.  I wanted to show the members what I do every Tuesday morning during preschool storytime.  I think they had as much fun as I did!  Thanks to Rebecca Collins of The Bay Area Observer for taking this picture and sending it to me.  Preschool storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am, year-round, at the Evelyn Meador Branch Library.

ipads at Evelyn Meador Branch Library

The Evelyn Meador Branch Library has ipads! Last Friday Ms. Pearson (that's me!) got the chance to work with Girl Scout Troop 1844 on badge requirements.  We used the branch's ipads to research which foods are grown in our area and when they are in season for the scouts' Locavore badge.  If your group would like to use one or all of the branch's seven ipads for an onsite program please contact Greg Burns, the branch librarian, to make arrangements.  You can also check out the ipads for use in the library with your Harris County Public Library card.  You must be a card holder for thirty days before you can check out an ipad or laptop.  See ya soon!

Summer Reading Medals!

For the past six or so years the Evelyn Meador Branch has awarded medals to children who read 100 books during the summer reading program. What makes the medals especially special is each is engraved with the name of the child who earned it. Despite a hot summer and the closure of our branch building, we had seven kids who crossed the 100 book mark and I am very proud of them! I will be picking the medals up this week at Seabrook’s own Crown Trophy to distribute to these awesome kids.
