Book Sale

The Friends of the Octavia Fields Library book sale will begin Saturday, November 16th and run through Wednesday, November 20th.   The book sale will be held in the activity room during regular library hours.  All proceeds from the sale benefit library programming.  Come in, find a great deal on a great read, and help the library all in one trip.  Please contact the library (281-446-337) for more information.

Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest

The Octavia Fields Branch Library invites the community to participate in the 2013 Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest.  Participation is free!

Entries will be separated into the following categories: Carved; Costumed; and, Painted.We will accept  entries beginning on Tuesday, October 29th, and ending at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30th.  Clearly label your pumpkin with your name and contact phone number. 

All pumpkins will be displayed in the library throughout the entry period.  Winners will be announced on Halloween and prizes will be awarded.

Program Canceled

The helicopter visit from the Harris County Sheriff's Department-Homeland Security Bureau, scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd, has been canceled.  The program may be rescheduled in the near future.  Program updates will be provided in this blog and on our online calendar.

The Octavia Fields Branch Library is hosting a quilt exhibit: Quilted Comfort.  All the quilts in the collection were created by members of the St. Mary Magadalene Prayer Quilt Ministry.  Quilts are on display throughout the library.  The exhibit will run through October.

Magazine Sale

The Friends of the Octavia Fields Branch Library are having a Buy One Magazine, Get Two Free sale!  Purchase one magazine for 25 cents and get two additional magazines for free.  This sale will begin today and run through the month of September or while supplies last.  Don't forget to browse the used books for sale while you're there. Funds raised through used book sales are dedicated to library programs, resources and improvements.

Teen Craft & Pizza

Join us on Tuesday, August 20th, at 2:30PM for a teen craft (marble magnets).  Create miniature works of art and enjoy a few slices of pizza.  We will be drawing the name of the Teen SRP grand prize winner at this party.  This program is for ages 11-18.

Bike Rodeo Pictures

Bike RodeoWe had a great turnout for the Bike Rodeo at the Octavia Fields Library.  The Humble Police Department set up a fun course for riders.  Pictures from this event and other activities at the library can be seen here.  The Humble Observer was also on hand to take photos.  They can be seen here.  The Tribune has also posted a picture.

Bicycle Rodeo

bicycle rodeoJoin us at the Octavia Fields Branch Library on Thursday, July 25th @ 10:00 AM (that’s right, 10:00 AM in the morning) for a  “Bicycle Rodeo.”  Learn safety and bicycle skills taught by the Humble Police at the big parking lot behind the Civic Center.  You MUST bring your bicycle and helmet to participate. Then, we will have a “Rodeo” where you will use those new skills on an obstacle course. Let’s RODEO! YEE HAW!

Teddy Bear Picnic

Last Wednesday, the Parker Williams Branch Library held its first Teddy Bear Picnic during Preschool Storytime.  Children brought their favorite teddy bear (or other stuffed friend) and enjoyed  a teddy bear themed storytime, craft, and a special snack.  Books shared at this event included
