Beginning French with Marie to take a Break for the Summer

 

The beginning French class that is held at noon on Fridays will be taking a break for the summer.

The last class for this spring will be April 25  - 12:00-1:30. Marie, the volunteer instructor, says the class will resume in September.
 
There will be no class on Friday, April 18 - Good Friday. The library will be closed.

Young Adult Intern Wanted at the Library

Barbara Bush Library Friends are happy to announce that they will sponsor a new summer intern position at the library! 

The Young Adult Services Summer Intern position is a 20 hour a week temporary position created to aid the Young Adult Librarian in running the Teen Summer Reading Program during June and July. This year’s Teen Summer Reading Program contains over 50 programs for teens ages 12-18.  Programs run the gamut from movie days to craft events, martial arts workshops to a first-ever teen overnight Lock-In.  The new Intern will aid in the set up, execution and tear down of teen programs as well as encourage teens to sign up for summer events.

Senior Classic Movie This Friday!

Come and watch a film from 1942 starring Ginger Rogers, Ray Milland and Diana Lynn, directed by Billy Wilder.

The 2014 the Senior Classic Movies will be held on varying Fridays of the month at 10:00.Bring a friend.

The last week for Artist, Roberta Sajda at the Library

This is the last week to see the work of artist, Roberta Sajda at the library. Her paintings are on the 2nd floor in the Art Alcove. Roberta does still life, trees and portraits. Her graphite portraits are drawn from your photographs.

Roberta Sajda is an award winning artist and photographer. She has studios in Spring, TX and in Cloudcroft, NM.

Stop in this week before this opportunity is gone.

Paintings and Portraits by Roberta Sajda


Paintings and Portraits by Roberta Sajda will be on display at the library during the month of March.  Come up to the 2nd floor Art Alcove to enjoy these beautiful, colorful works of art.

Roberta is an award winning artist and photographer who has studios in Spring as well as Cloudcroft, New Mexico. She draws sensitive graphite portraits from your photographs that you will treasure for years.

Special Display of Copper Mandalas from Theiss Elementary 5th grade

The five 5th grade classes from Theiss Elementary have created artistic Copper Mandalas. The class lesson on the history of the Statue of Liberty included how the statue was made and the patination process of copper.

The students used 100% copper to create these mandalas. In doing so the learned the Repoussé process which involves manipulating the shape of metal. To do this, they needed to understand relief sculpture, as well as convex and concave shapes.

Knowledge Exchange - let's knit or crochet!

 

Come and knit or crochet with friends at the library on Fridays from 2:30-4:30.

We make lap blankets for Vets at the V.A. and Chemo Caps for patients at M.D. Anderson. We also make 8" squares to be sent overseas for children with AIDS. The mothers sew the squares together to make blankets.

This Friday is the last Friday of the month and that is when we celebrate the birthdays of the month. Please bring a small snack to share.

Calling all seniors who like classic movies!

Come and enjoy an award winning film from 1938 starring Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, Ann Miller and James Stewart.  This film won Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards.

On Friday, February 14 we will show a love story from 1940 that is perfect for Valentine’s Day. This classic stars James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. Come and share the love. Bring a friend.
