Self-registration now available for Adult and Teen programs

CalendarDon't wait to call or visit the library during regular hours of operation to sign up for classes! For programs in May and in the future, individuals interested in attending programs such as Workforce Solutions and computer classes can register via our Events calendar. Simply visit www.hcpl.net, click on the "Events" icon to select your library and see upcoming programs. Consider adding our branch page to your Favorites for your convenience! Please note that not all programs require registration.

Kingwood Branch Library hosts Second Annual ESL Luncheon

ESL 2nd LuncheonOn Tuesday, April 9, 2013, Kingwood Library hosted its 2nd Annual ESL Luncheon. Like many other HCPL branches, Kingwood Library offers English as a Second Language classes to the community. ESL tutors and students came together for an afternoon of food, fun, and festivities.  Students brought dishes from their native country and entertainment was provided by Teresa Moore of Fretted Friends. Thanks to all who make  the ESL program a possibility!

YALSA's Great Graphic Novels 2013

YALSA, Young Adults Services Association of American Libraries Association, provides an annual list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens. These titles are selected for their “good quality literature and appealing reading for teens.” The recommendations are a mix of fiction and nonfiction titles

Altered Books Contest at Kingwood Library

Altered BooksIn honor of National Library Week, Kingwood Branch Library is hosting an Altered Books contest open to all ages in April.

What are altered books you ask? Altered books are books that are modified in a variety of ways to make an artistic or personal statement. Books can be used as a canvas, re-purposed to function a different way, the sky's the limit! We encourage participants to be creative.

Money Management Workshop at Kingwood Library

MoneyHave trouble managing your income? Interested in professional help for advice? On Tuesday, March 26 at 10:30 AM, Money Management International will visit Kingwood Branch Library to present Managing Income & Expenses.

 Learn the basics of creating a budget, calculating net worth, and more. The program will be held in the Meeting Room located on the 1st Floor.

Graphic Novels receive Cybils Awards

A few weeks ago, School Library Journal posted Three Graphic Novels Take Cybils Awards.
Cybils, Children’s and Young Adult Bloggers’ Literacy Awards, is an annual  event that highlights Children’s and Young Adult books that “combine the highest literary merit and kid appeal.” Visit their website for more information about these awards, past winners, and more!

Upcoming programs for Black History Month

On Monday, February 18th, the Kingwood Library Book Club will discuss Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon in the Conference Room located on the 2nd Floor. Stop by for mind-stimulating conversation and fun!

Also, on Monday the 18th, teens can stop by the Teen Room to create and print Adinkra designs onto cloth! Cloth printing will begin at 4:30 PM; be sure to stop by early while supplies last!
