KimYou may have noticed a new face at our library. Please help us welcome our newest librarian, Miss Kim!

A Texas native, Kim is a budding librarian and works in the Adult Services department on the 2nd Floor. Kim is excited to join us and we are too! Like most of our staff, Kim is an avid reader. Her favorite author is J.K. Rowling and she is currently reading George R.R. Martin's Clash of Kings.

Harris County Precinct 4 hosts Harvest Moon Costume Dance

Halloween DancingHarris County Precinct 4's Senior Adult Program and Fun2Seniors invites community members 50 years and better to its Harvest Moon Costume Dance on Thursday, October 31st. The dance will be held at the Humble Civic Center located at 8233 Will Clayton Parkway. Doors open at 12:30 PM and the festivities will go on until 4:00 PM. Enjoy live music from the River Road Boys, dancing, light refreshments, and participate in a costume contest for a chance to win prizes!

What consumer education topic interests you?

Survey2014 is right around the corner and Kingwood Branch Library wants to help you start the new year on the right foot.

We are looking to bring the Better Business Bureau of Houston for a consumer education workshop in January and need your help choosing the topic. Topics include identity theft, investment fraud, and more.

If you are interested in consumer education and would like to vote on your preferred topic, please take our two-question survey. Don't wait long! The survey closes Friday, November 15th.

Operation Holiday Cheer

Operation Holiday CheerThe holiday season is around the corner and we need your help spreading holiday cheer! Kingwood Branch Library is participating in Congressman Ted Poe's Military Christmas Card Drive by providing craft materials for folks to create holiday greeting cards to send to our troops overseas.

Now through October 31, anyone can stop by the 2nd Floor Teen Room and make a greeting card or drop one off. Cards should start with "Dear Service Member" and include well wishes, gratitude, and your name. Cards should not include contact information and cannot include glitter or confetti.

HPD shares Halloween Safety Tips

HalloweenYes, it is that time of the year! Not only are we inching our way towards cooler weather (hooray!), all are gearing up for Halloween, including Houston Police Department!

On Monday, October 7 at 5:30 PM, Officer D. Ulrich will share tips with families on how to have a safe Halloween. This program is intended for all ages so save the date and we'll see you here! Program meets in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. No registration is required.

In case you can't make it to this presentation, Officer Ulrich will visit on November 11 to share tips for Holiday Safety.

1-2-Cha-Cha-Cha: Latin Dance Demo

Latin DanceThere's still time to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Kingwood Branch Library! On Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:30 PMFred Astaire of Lake Houston will demonstrate popular Latin dances including Salsa and Mambo at Kingwood Branch Library. In this hour-long program, participants will see the instructor explain each dance and moves then get to practice the steps with the help of the instructor.

This program is free and open to individuals ages 18 and over. Registration is recommended as space is limited; walk-ins are welcome if space permits.

DIY Flower Pots with Sugar Skull Designs

Flower PotsWhy should kids have all the crafting fun? This month marks our first Adult Crafternoon, a monthly craft program just for adults! Join us this Friday, September 20th at 2:30 PM for craft and conversation. In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, we are decorating flower pots inspired by sugar skull designs. No registration is required. All materials are provided, while supplies last. Materials are provided courtesy of Friends of the Library Kingwood.
