Celebrating Grandparents

Mother's Day is celebrated in May and Father's Day in June.  But what about Grandparents?  That is celebrated in September and this year falls on Sunday, September 13.  To help you celebrate Grandparents Day we have a new display of children's picture books for you to check out and share with family and friends.  Please browse this selection on your next visit to the library.  Happy Reading!

Back to School

It seems just like yesterday that school was out for the summer and there were lots of days with no homework and fun activities ahead.  But now summer is winding down and the start of school is just around the corner.  The library has a new display of picture books about going to school--"Back to School."  Please browse the selection on your next visit to the library and check some out to read and share.  Happy Reading!

Internet Safety Class

Are you safe on the Internet?  Are your children safe when using the Internet?  Learn to make sure you and your family are using the correct safety precautions while surfing the Internet.  Learn to avoid scams and how to set secure passwords and pin numbers, and more.  This free interactive class will be on Monday, August 10, at 4:00 PM in the library meeting room.  Register for the class by calling the library at 713-466-4438 and learn how to be safe on the Internet. 

Captain America's All American Reading Show

Save the date!  On Friday, August 7, at 3:00 pm the Fairbanks Branch Library is proud to host the Captain America's All American Reading Show.  He will talk about reading and his super hero friends as well as astound you with some cool technology  So, please join us for fun and games with Captain America in the meeting room of the library.  See you there!.

Hiccup & Toothless Dragon Party

Training your dragon can be hard work.  But, with the help of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his dragon, Toothless, it becomes a lot easier.  If you are a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon series of books and movies, please join us for a celebration of the fun and adventure that Hiccup, Toothless, and friends always have.  Activities and refreshments are part of the fun.  See you at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, in the meeting room of the library. 

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party

Four teenage mutant turtles?  Named after four Renaissance artists?  Trained by a rat sensei in the art of ninjutsu so they can battle evil overlords and alien invaders?  Yes, indeed!  Please join us at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22 in the library meeting room to celebrate the heroic exploits of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo.  We will provide refreshments along with activities such as making ninja turtle masks and bookmarks.  Costuming is welcome and encouraged.  See you then!

Home Run Reading

Take me out to the ball game!  And don't forget the peanuts and cracker jacks!  Baseball season is going strong and to help celebrate, the library staff has a new display of picture books about baseball, "Home Run Reading."  Take a look on your next visit to the library and check out some titles to take and share with fellow baseball fans.  Batter up!

3D Printer Demos @ Fairbanks Branch Library

Have you heard about 3D Printers but never seen one in action?  Well, now is your chance to see how a 3D Printer works.  At 3:00 PM on both Wednesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 9, the Fairbanks Branch Library will present a 3D Printer demonstration in the meeting room of the library.  All ages are invited to watch this exciting new technology, and enter to win the completed plastic figures.  See you there!

Snakes & Bears @ Your Library

Please mark your calendar for two upcoming Summer Reading Program events at the Fairbanks Branch Library!  On Monday, June 22, at 3:00 PM is the Texas Snakes program at which you can learn about snake safety and actually hold several non-poisonous snakes.  On Wednesday, June 24, at 3:00 PM is our Paddington Bear Party for all you teddy bear fans out there.  So Save the Date and join us for these two exciting and fun programs.  Happy Reading!
