'Tweet' Reads @ Your Library

Although the season of Spring is not until later in this new year, the warmer temperatures and sunshine give a Spring-like quality to the weather here.  If you take a walk in the park area near the Fairbanks Library building, not only can you see the ducks in the pond, but also more birds around the area, too.  The different types of birds made us think of the various fiction and nonfiction books about birds in the library collection, and we created a new display of books about them--'Tweet Reading'.  If you like birds and want to learn more about them, please browse the display and check out some books to take home and share.  If you do not find the information you need, please ask at the circulation desk and we will interlibrary loan

Reading About Famous People @ Your Library

If you like to read biographies about famous people and autobiographies that some people write about themselves, then please browse a new display at the library, "Famous Lives."  You will find books about politicians, actors, world leaders, and many others either on the display or in the "Biography" section of the library.  If we do not have a biography of someone you want to read about, please let us know and we will interlibrary loan it for you.  Happy Reading!

Resolutions Solutions @ Your Library

As the year draws to a close, most of us start to think about the coming new year and some goals and/or changes we would like to accomplish during the year.  I know I have set my new year resolutions which seem to be pretty much the same for the last few years--exercise more and eat sensibly.  But there are many more resolutions that people make and to help with setting goals and accomplishing them, we have a new display of books--"Resolutions Solutions"--that can help.  Browse the display on your next visit to the library and you'll find some informative and useful material.  If you don't see what you need, please ask and we will interlibrary loan what you need.  Happy Holidays and Happy Reading!

Movies for the holiday @ Your Library

Since the Fairbanks Branch will be closed November 24-27, this is the time to start thinking about visiting the library and checking out some entertaining movies to watch during the holiday period.  The library has a good collection of movies from which to choose--action & adventure, mysteries & suspense, anime films, romantic dramas and comedies, cartoons, and many more.  Don't wait until it's too late to find just those movies you want to watch and share with family and friends during the holiday.  See you soon and Happy Viewing!

Finding Your Roots @Your Library

At one time or another, we all become interested in finding out about our individual family history--the family origins, how the family name came about, family ancestors, and other family history.  Various books are available to help with researching family history, and we have a new display of several recommended titles to guide you on your search.  The Harris County Public Library also provides access to genealogical databases which provide comprehensive treasuries of family lineage and local histories and which can be used to trace family lineage and American culture from the original 13 colonies.  Happy Reading and Researching!

Pumpkin Time Storytime @ Your Library

It's almost the end of the month of October and time to celebrate the season with a Pumpkin Time Storytime at the Fairbanks Branch Library.  The library will host a family storytime with stories about pumpkins and the harvest season on Monday, October 31 at 7 pm in the library meeting room.  Please join us for this special storytime to share stories, a craft, and refreshments.  See you then!  Happy Reading!
