Find Your Space on the Second Floor

Wonders abound on the second floor of the Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library!  Not only can you meander through the rows and rows of books and audiovisual materials, there’s room to sit down and relax to peruse the latest fiction or non-fiction title.  

The second floor of the library is home to the adult and young adult collections, as well as the reference collection and an extensive audiovisual collection.   The library shelves are filled with both contemporary and classic authors and titles in formats from audiovisual to paperback and from large print to Spanish language!   There’s something in the library’s collection to please every age, taste and interest.  

Young adults have their own special room on the second floor of the library where popular titles in both hardback and paperback are in large supply and series titles abound.   The young adult area also is home to the library’s graphic novel collection, a mainstay for today’s teens.   Programs include origami, computer classes, magnetic poetry and SAT preparation.   Area teens won’t find any “required” school titles in this collection, as the young adult collection is meant for recreational reading only!  

Whether you’re traveling the freeways into the city of Houston or to Galveston or spending your summer going to some exotic locale, the Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library has something for you!   Don’t let the traffic bother you as you commute.   Sit back, watch the road and enjoy one of the library's many titles available in audiotape or CD format.   Your commute will be pleasurable as you listen to the latest novel or learn to speak a foreign language while you drive.   If you’re planning a summer vacation, the library offers travel books on every imaginable destination from Texas and U.S. cities to books on international travel.   Before your trip, learn some important phrases in that language, study the history of the location or simply sample the foods by using the many cookbooks available.   If armchair travel is your thing, there are plenty of titles to suit that need as well.

Moms and dads will appreciate the many titles on parenting, education, interpersonal skills, as well as how to finance that college education.   Students will be pleased to see that the library has an extensive literary criticism area for those term papers AND books on many of the subjects needed for debate, history fair and science fair.   For college bound students, many titles are available on selecting a college.

If you’re looking for some summer fun, try a new sport or hobby!   The library has titles on boating and sailing, baseball and many more.   If hobbies are your thing, the library can help you with scrap booking or quilting, just to name two of the many subjects available for the hobbyist.  Want to do an “extreme” or mini makeover to your home or apartment?   The library has titles on decorating, remodeling, gardening and construction.

If mystery, science fiction or westerns are your genre, the library staff has pulled all of these fiction titles together and they can easily be found.    The Spanish language collection has grown from a few shelves to nearly one thousand titles.   Some titles are also available in Chinese.   If you’re looking for a book to help study for one of the many standardized tests from TAKS to SAT to vocational tests of one kind or another, the library has many of these study guides available in their tests section.
