February Crafts-To-Go Are Here! 

Adults - Stop by the upstairs Reference Desk, to pick up a Crafts-To-Go kit. This free kit will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. In February, we’re making a beaded necklace. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last.1 craft kit/adult present.

Finance 50+ Presentation by AARP

Finance jarsOn Wednesday, February 13, 1:00-2:30 pm, a volunteer from AARP will present a seminar called Finance 50+. He will share what he learned from experience: how to make the most of the money you have, how to maintain a budget, control debt, and avoid scams. Please join us. You might learn something truly helpful!

The presentation will be held on Wednesday, February 20 at 11:30am in the West University Community Building located next door to the library at 6104 Auden St. We hope to see you there!

Did you KNOW... You can use your Library Card to do practical and fun things? Find out how with the "Did you KNOW? An HCPL Info Series" offered here at Freeman Library. Here's what we're looking forward to this February. These free courses do require registration.

Yoga for Adults, Wednesday Evenings at 6:15 pm

Beginner level YOGA class every Wednesday evening at 6:15pm. Yoga is a system of physical exercises, breath control, and meditation aimed at attaining bodily and mental control and well-being. The word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit word Yuj, meaning to “yoke,” “join,” or “unite.” The word implies joining or integrating all aspects of the body with the mind to achieve a healthy and balanced life. Book Club for Adults

Calling Me HomeFor our next meeting on Wednesday, February 20, at 1 pm, we are reading “Calling Me Home” by Julie Kibler. Copies are available for checkout at the library. It’s about Isabelle, an 89-year-old white woman, who asks a huge favor of her hairdresser, Dorrie, a black single mom. Isabelle wants Dorrie to drop everything and drive her from Texas to a funeral in Cincinnati. Tomorrow. With no explanation. Dorrie reluctantly agrees.

Creative Art Club for Adults, Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 pm

Studies have shown that coloring and other art activities can help lower anxiety levels, reduce stress, and prevent boredom. Come and join us at the Northwest Branch Library and get in touch with your creative side. All materials will be provided by the library, event is free and open to the public. Adults - Mark Your Calendars for the “Kick the Sugar Habit” Workshop - Thursday, 2/7 at 6:00 PM

 

Valerie Coyle, Certified Health & Life Coach, will discuss: What sugar does in your body, Why we start & can’t stop, and How to transform sugar cravings. She will also talk about high fructose corn syrup, what spikes our blood sugar and creates a ‘blood sugar roller coaster’ and its results on hormone insulin and correlating hormone glucagon. Come and learn 7 solutions to sugar cravings.

Candy dishesWe will be making candy dishes like the ones at left on Wednesday, February 6, at 1:00 pm. We would love for you to join us. Supplies are limited, though, so you MUST REGISTER HERE. If you have ribbon, buttons, etc. at home that you want to bring, feel free!
