Adults - Coming Thursday, 3/1 to your friendly Adult Services/Reference Desk - March Adult Crafts-To-Go Kits!

Please stop by beginning this Thursday for your own Adult Crafts-To-Go kit! This month's project, a decorative magnet (see picture), will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last.

Crafting for Adults-Basic Sewing: Hem & Button

Photo of sewing supplies by Irene Cantu.Are your skills in sewing a source of embarrassment? Mine are to me! Ms. Irene is here to fill in the gaps of what some of us did not learn about sewing on the path to adulthood.

In this first session, you will learn how to sew a button and hem a garment. Even if you already have a little knowledge about these skills, this class will help you learn new tips. Irene is an excellent and patient teacher! During this session, she will ask what other classes are desired in the area of basic sewing.

Adult Movie Mania "IT"

Adults ages 17 and up are invited to join us for this month's Adult Movie Mania movie: IT, the 2017 film adaptation based on Stephen King's 1986 novel of the same name. In a small town in 1989 Maine, seven bullied kids discover that a malevolent force is preying on the local children. Soon, they band together to destroy the monster, a killer clown called Pennywise, in this nerve-shredding horror film. Make sure to stop by the library this Friday, February 23 at 1:30 PM to view this suspenseful film.

A Novel Idea - March

African American History Month Celebration

February is African American History Month, and we invite you to celebrate the importance of African American culture and history with us. The South Houston Branch Library will be having an African American History Month Celebration on Monday, February 19 at 5:00 pm. All ages are welcome to join us for fun and activities during this celebration.

“Hidden Figures” and NASA at Your Library

Hidden Figures[En español abajo] February is African-American History Month and NASA Month at your library. A NASA spokesperson will be here on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, at 5:30 to tell us the surprising stories of the little-known but critical contributions of women to the US Space Program. On THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, at 4:00 pm, with materials from NASA, kids of all ages can visit the moon, map the stars, explore space technology, and eat like an astronaut. Read the book “Hidden Figures,” then come and discuss it with other readers on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23, at 4:00 pm.  [We still have 2 remaining FREE COPIES of the book available for people who register to attend the book discussion.] And on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, come and watch the movie “Hidden Figures” with us.
