Cooks and Books: It's a Mystery!

Join the fun with our book group for grades 3-5.
For this meeting, read the MYSTERY book of your choice and we are making a mystery treat!

Time: 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

This program is for grades 3-5.

Space is limited. Please arrive early to ensure participation.
Registration for after-school programs opens 30 minutes prior to the program.

Book Buddies

book buddies We are now accepting applications for Big and Little Buddies for the Spring session of Book Buddies! Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies program pairs trained teen volunteers in 7th through 12th grade (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading.

This session of Book Buddies will run from February 12 to April 23, 2017 at the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library. The Buddy pairs will meet together once a week on Monday from 5:00 to 5:45 PM.

If you have a child or teen interested in being a Big Buddy or a Little Buddy, please contact Kimberly Clutter (Kimberly.clutter@hcpl.net) for an application. Applications are also available in the Children’s Area. Applications must be turned in by Friday, January 26th at the LSC-Tomball Community Library.

Texas Bluebonnet Award Voting [6-12] Saturday, January 13 from 10 AM – 5 PM

 

The Parker Williams Branch Library will be hosting voting for the Texas Bluebonnet Award.

Voting will be available to all children who have not yet been able to vote at either their elementary school or through their homeschool group.

Voting begins at 10 AM and ends at 5 PM. Please pick-up your ballet at the Reference Desk. 

Maker Monday features Straws & Connectors on Monday, January 8 at 4:30 pm

  Children 5-12 years old will enjoy Straws & Connectors on this Monday, January 8 at 4:30 pm.  This weekly afterschool program features an activity or craft each week.    Straws & Connectors allows children to work together to build amazing creations from a diagram or with their own imagination.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting at 4:00 pm.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

 

Start the New Year with Family Storytime on Saturday, January 6 at 11:00 am

You can kick off the new year with a tradition of attending Family Storytime starting this Saturday, January 6 at 11:00 am.   This fun storytime is held on the first and third Saturdays of the month.  It is recommended for children from infants through preschool as well as the whole family.   It features stories, songs, and fingerplays and lasts about 30 minutes.  No tickets are needed for this program.  It is held in the Children's Department near the magazine area.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their support for this program.

Community Craft – Vietnamese Noodle Salad and Bake-A-Plate [All Ages] Friday, January 12 at 4 PM

 

As the New Year comes around again, we start shifting our focus to healthier eating.

Join us at the Parker Williams Branch on January 12th at 4 PM in the Library Community Room to learn how to make a Vietnamese Noodle Salad.

Children are invited to draw on a ceramic plate that will be baked in the oven making their scribbles permanent.

Food and family fun will ensue!   

The Curiosity Cruiser is Coming to Fairbanks

All preschoolers are invited to meet Houston's newest Superheros, Owlbotron and Northtale, at a special STEM based program. The Cruiser will be arriving at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 9. Family Storytime this Saturday

What’s Coming Up

3D snowflakeBesides our usual events, here are a few special things we have going on at the Aldine Library in the next week.
The next Doctor Who Club meeting is Saturday, January 6, at 1:00 pm. Come to watch episodes, talk about books, and play Doctor Who-related games.
We are going to host a “Book Tasting” for ages 8-12 on Monday, January 8, at 4:00. We will have four tables set up. Each one will have a different type of book and a person to talk to you about the books. “Taste” all four types of books and see which kind you like best!

Join us on January 11th starting at 4 PM in the Library Community Room to watch Paddington based on the Michael Bond book series.

To go along with the movie, coloring sheets and markers will be provided during the movie. Movie popcorn has been generously provided by the Friends of the Parker Williams Library.
