International Observe the Moon Night

Join us on Thursday, November 2nd from 6-7:30pm at the Cypress Creek Christian Church and Community Center for International Observe the Moon Night. 

We will have a guest speaker, and you'll get to learn about the moon. We've also got some hands on activities for you and you'll get a chance to catch up with fellow library patrons and staff!

Star Wars Reads Day!

star wars readsCelebrate Star Wars Reads Day with an afternoon of games, crafts and fun! Meet other Star Wars fans and enjoy trivia and snacks. Come dressed as your favorite character and learn cool Jedi moves from Master Whit. Enter your name in our prize drawing for cool Star Wars stuff!

The event will take place on Saturday, October 28th from 1:00-4:00 pm. It will be held in the first floor Meeting Room (L129). This is a family event - all ages are welcome!

Project Pumpkin - Day 2

  This is Day 2 of Freeman Library's 2017 Project Pumpkin program.   This Freeman tradition features several pumpkins decorated by library staff using paint and other materials but no carving is done to the pumpkins.   The pumpkins were generously donated by HEB and many of the art supplies used on the pumpkins have been purchased through the Friends of Freeman Library.   This year there are 8 pumpkins decorated as classic children's book characters or other popular culture figures.   Today's pumpkin is Poppy  - inspired by the troll in the movie Trolls.  Children and adults can vote for their favorite pumpkins through October 31.  The pumpkins with the top 3 votes will be revealed on November 1.

Trek the Galaxy Program kicks off at Freeman Library on Thursday, October 26 at 6 pm

  Children and families can learn about space exploration in a hands-on experience at Freeman Library this Thursday, October 26 at 6:00 pm.  This hour-long program features several activity stations where children can do fun things like visit the moon, map the stars, and cook like an astronaut!.  This program is brought to Freeman Library through NASA @ My Library.  No tickets will be needed for this event that will be held througout the Children's Department.  

Fall Festival!

The South Houston Branch Library will be hosting its annual Fall Festival on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5-6 pm.  Bring the whole family and join us for a fun filled afternoon.  This event is free of charge and recommended for children ages 12 and under.  Activities and prizes provided courtesy of the Friends of the South Houston Library and other community supporters.  For more information please call the library at 832-927-5530.

Events for Kids & Teens, October 30-November 4

MeanwhileTweens Read, for ages 10-14, Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 4:30-5:30. We’ll talk about books, play games, and have a snack. This month’s choose-your-own-plot style graphic novel, “Meanwhile” by Jason Shiga, is available at the checkout desk. Even if you haven’t read it, come anyway!
Our brand new Doctor Who Club will meet for the first time on Saturday, November 4, from 1:00-2:00 pm. Talk about everything Doctor Who-related, from the beginning to the present, from books to tv. For teens and adults.

Halloween Hoopla

halloweenThis Saturday, October 28th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm join us for some spooky fun and halloweengames at Halloween Hoopla!  Come in costume and play Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin, Swamp Fishing, Graveyard Golf, Spider Ring Toss, Monster Photo Area, Treat or Treat Toss, Dem Bones, Bats and Ghosty Crafts. Go Trick or Treat around the library at the bookdrop and front desk for some goodies.  This party is for all ages. We are accepting treat donations. Please bring them to the desk before this Saturday.  pumpkin

2017 Project Pumpkin Begins!

   Looking for some ideas on how to decorate your pumpkin this year?  Then check out this year's 2017 Project Pumpkin entrants at Freeman Library.  We will have 8 pumpkins decorated as children's book characters or a popular culture characters  (we have 6 out right now with 2 on the way).   The pumpkins have been decorated by staff using paint or other materials but no carving.   Children and adults are welcome to vote for as many pumpkins as they like through October 31st.   The 3 pumpkins with the most votes will be revealed on November 1st.   We will feature a different pumpkin each day in this blog.  One of our first entrants is Fluffy Unicorn.  It is inspired by a character in the movie "Despicable Me'.

Country Club: Morocco

Join our library “Country Club” and we will “travel” to a different country each month to sample food, culture, games and more! This month we will travel to North Africa to stamp our passports in Morocco!

This program is for grades 1-5 and kindergartners with an adult.

Date: Wednesday, October 25

Time: 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Space is limited. Please arrive early to ensure participation.
Registration for after-school programs opens 30 minutes prior to the program.
