Mad Science: Fire & Ice Show

Join us on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 3- 4 pm for a spectacular Fire & Ice Show presented by Mad Science! Children will be dazzled as they explore physical and chemical changes throughout the show.  They will be able to witness the wonders of air pressure and an indoor firework show!  For the finale, they will end with a huge bubbling potion using their Special Mad Science Ice. You will have never seen kids so excited about science!  Program is recommended for children ages 4-12 years of age. Space is limited. For more information please call the branch at 713-941-2385.

Children's Weekly Run-Down

Our Story times continue with their new schedule! Be here for Toddler Time** on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday, and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday @ 11 AM. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft!

**Tickets required upon entry. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets will be given to the first 30 children and their caregivers the day of the scheduled event.

BUILD: A BETTER WORLD: Join us for the seventh meeting of our Maker Monday Club on Monday the 24th of July @ 2:15 PM. We will be building and creating a new and exciting craft out of recycled materials every week!

Our special summer Program this week is on Thursday, the 27th of July, @ 2:15 PM and is a hands-on workshop with Julian Franklin called "SImple Machines – Work Smarter, Not Harder!" Kids will learn to handle wheels, pulleys, levers, wedges, incline planes, and screws in a way that teaches them to use simple machines to work smarter, not harder.

We will also have our eighth Block Party this Friday the 28th of July @ 2:15 PM!

Let’s Get Silly in Toddler Time at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library

SillyWe will be reading, singing and shaking our sillies out this week in Toddler Time.  Please join us Wednesday, July 26 at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM for Toddler Time. 

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children ages 18 months to 3 years of age. 

This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.  A ticket is required for the child who is the appropriate age for the program. Caregivers and siblings who are younger or older are not required to have a ticket to attend.

Big and Little Buddies

Do you want to help your Elementary-aged child develop a love of reading?  The Maud Marks Library can help with that.  This fall we are starting a new program called Book Buddies.  Book Buddies matches children with trained adults to share the joy of reading.  Starting Monday, September 11 at 4:45 pm, the Buddies will meet once a week for 10 weeks of 45 minutes of shared reading.  The program will end with a party on November 13.

If this is something you might be interested in for your child, applications are now available at the Maud Marks Library.  For more information, please come in or call 281-492-8592 and speak with Naomi Haught or Charity James.

Geebo the Clown!

Come see Geebo this Tuesday, July 25 at 2:00pm! Don't forget to pick up your ticket at the library at 1:00 pm, check out some books, and then head over to the Lion's Club building across the parking lot for the show! Kids of all ages are invited to this magic and comedy hour.

Quidditch Team visiting Barbara Bush Library!

Next Saturday, July 29th from 10:30am-11:30am, The League City Legends will be demonstrating their Quidditch skills! Join us in the library parking lot for a fun filled morning of all things Quidditch!

Level Up Gaming – Super Smash Bros July 28th @ 2-4 PM [10+]

 

 

 

Enjoy some summer gaming time in the Library Community Room on our 60” Plasma TV. We’ll be hooking up a Nintendo Wii and playing Super Smash Bros. Winner stays on, losers rotate out. Join us for some crash, bash, and smash on July 28th from 2-4 PM.

Happy the Clown visits Freeman Library on Thursday, July 20 for shows at 2:30 & 3:30 pm

 Happy the Clown spreads his magic and jokes around when he visits Freeman :Library on Thursday, July 20 at 2:30 and 3:30 pm.   This program is recommended for children 3 years and older.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before each session.  Due to limited space in the room, strollers will not be admitted to the performance area.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support of this program.

Book Buddies Coming to Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Branch Fall 2017

Book BuddiesDo you have a child in Kindergarten – 3rd grades? Do you want to help them develop a love of reading? Then stop by the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library and fill out an application for our Book Buddies. 

Harris County Public Library’s Book Buddies program pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading. 

This next session will run from September 13- November 15, 2017 at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Branch.  Your child will meet with their Big Buddy once a week on Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM.  Parents or guardians must remain at the library during the session.  

Fort Night at the Library!

:

Build a fort in the library! Read and tell stories in your fort. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All fort materials will be provided. The fun begins Friday evening, July 21 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. No pre-registration is required.
