These databases provide free research articles and information that you can use for your projects. You can also access these databases from any library computer.

Monday, December 3rd from 6-7:30 PM – Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+]



Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on the first and third Mondays from 6PM -7:30PM on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

A Special Thank You to Strike Zone for their generous donation of Magic: The Gathering cards.

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! We are gearing up for winter in the Children’s Department! Our Fall programming continues at Full Steam Ahead! Our weekly STEAM activity is this Thursday @ 4 PM. 

Fascination Station Preview on Tuesday, Dec. 4th

Picture of Cosmo, a small robotWe were recently awarded a generous grant through the North Harris County chapter of AAUW (American Association of University Women) to create the Fascination Station, a mobile STEM and maker cart. We will be unveiling the Fascination Station to the public for the first time on Dec. 4th at 4:45 pm. We have a robots (like Cozmo, pictured), building toys and more! This program is for children ages 5-12. A free ticket is required and can be picked up at the children's reference desk 15 minutes before the program.

Family Movie

Join us during this holiday break on Wednesday, November 21 at 2pm for a Family Movie! We'll be watching Shrek on our big screen...Will Shrek rescue Princess Fiona? See all sorts of magical creatures in his home in the swamp! Don't forget your pillows, blankets, and refreshments. This feature is rated PG and is 90 min. in length. Public Meeting Room.

Monday, November 26th at 6:30 PM – Chess Club [8 to Adult]



New to the Parker Williams Branch Library, we are exploring the interest in the Southbelt area for a Chess Club.

Chess is a two player, strategy game that is played by people all over the world.

Staff members will be available to teach beginners how to play.

Chess Club will be held on the Library Floor on November 26th, at 6:30 PM.

Our Story times continue as normal on Tuesday and Wednesday only! Be here for Toddler Time on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM followed by Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM, and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday @ 11 AM. We will be closed the rest of the week. Tickets required upon entry. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets will be given to the first 30 children for Toddler Time and Preschool Storytime, 15 for Infant Lapsit, and their caregivers the day of the scheduled event.

Faithful Paws

Did you know friendly, furry pals will be here at North Channel Library Saturday, November from 2-3pm to listen to you read to them? Faithful Paws of Houston provides trained and well-groomed dogs for a visit here every third Saturday of the month at the same time. Sit and share with them for early literacy encouragement, reading practice, or just for fun! All ages are welcome. Children's Area. For more information please call the branch at (832) 927-5550.
