Fun Upcoming Events!

The first meeting of the new Doctor Who Club! Saturday, Nov. 4, 1:00 pm.
Kids’ Book Club (ages 7-11), Monday, Nov. 6, 4:00 pm. This month’s book is “One Trick Pony” by Nathan Hale. You can come and hang out, even if you haven’t read the book.
Krafty Korner, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 1:00 pm. Adult crafts are back! This week we’re making coasters from wine corks.
Animé Club, Tuesday, Nov. 7, 3:30 pm. Movies, tv, books, games and more!

Everyone - Thursday, 11/2 @ 6 PM - NaNoWriMo Write-In!


November is National Novel Writing Month! In support of NaNoWriMo, the library will host write-ins for aspiring authors. Bring your laptop, journal, or any other writing tools you need to work on your novel!

The 2017 Project Pumpkin Vote is In...

  The vote is in for the 2017 Project Pumpkin. The top 3 winners: 1) Fluffy Unicorn; 2) Poppy, and 3) Rockiin' Pete the Cat.  There were 286 votes cast in this year's contest.  Thank you to HEB for the generous donation of pumpkins and to the Friends of Freeman Library for the art supplies.

High-5 Club

Watermelon SeedSaturday, November 11th at 1:00 PM join the High Five Science Club presented by the University of Houston Be a Teacher Club to learn about plants. We will be reading the book The Watermelon Seed. The kids will be creating mini greenhouses out of plastic cups and planting a plant inside. Their take-home activity will be growing grass seeds in different shaped sponges. They will also each get to take home a copy of the book that we are reading that day. Come to the desk 30 minutes before the program to get a free ticket. Space is limited.  For ages 1st-3rd grade.

STEM Time – Science Fair Exploration November 8th @ 5 PM [8+]

Do you and your student have to do the dreaded science fair?

Have no ideas of what to do?

Join Mr. John in the Library Community Room on November 8th at 5 PM to explore the different resources and books available through the library to not only complete the science fair project but have fun too. 

International Games Day @ 2-4 PM [All Ages]

In cooperation with International Games Day, the Parker Williams Branch will be hosting a variety of board, card, and tablet video games on Saturday, November 4th from 2-4 PM on the main floor of the library.

Staff will be available for an Introduction to Magic: The Gathering to anyone who is interested in learning.

A Special Thank You to Strike Zone for their generous donation of Magic: The Gathering cards. 

Dia De Los Muertos Sugar Skull Decorating November 2nd @ 4:00-5:30 PM [All Ages]

 

 

Dia De Los Muertos is a family holiday for gathering and remembering family and friends that have past.

In the spirit of this holiday, we ask that you and your family to gather with us on November 2nd from 4:30-5:30 in the Library Community Room to decorate a Sugar Skull and share some of your favorite memories.

Grade School Programs This Week

We have TWO great programs for your grade-schoolers this week at the Fairbanks Branch Library. Tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 4:45 pm we'll be holding a Dia De Los Muertos Craft. On Friday, Nov. 3 we'll be holding Pokemon Club at 4:45 pm. Come on out and enjoy these programs! Call 713-466-4438 for more information.

Check Out Our Sunset Storytime

Our Sunset Storytime returns on November 14th at 6:30 PM. Get those kids fed and ready for bed. Then bring the entire family out to our new bedtime storytime.  There's going to be stories, songs and rhymes for the whole family. Pajamas welcome and encouraged. Make sure to come visit us as our next Sunset Storytime won't be until December. Check out all of our events and activities on our calendar.

2017 Project Pumpkin Voting ends Tuesday, October 31

  The 2017 Project Pumpkin vote is nearing an end.  We had 8 entrants tihis year.  The pumpkins were decorated by library staff.   They were based on book characters such as Rockin' Pete the Cat or popular culture characters such as Mr. Pumpkin Head.  The vote is being held at the Kids Information Desk.  The wote ends on Tuesday, October 31.  The top 3 pumpkins will be revealed on Wednesay, November 1 and the pumpkins will be on display through Thursday, November 2. Thank you to tHEB for the generous donation of pumpkins and the Friends of Freeman Library for the art supplies.
