Microsoft Word is one of the most used programs in the world.

It is a word processing application that can do a lot of simple or crazy things.

Join Mr. John in the Computer Lab on January 31st at 5 PM for a basic introduction into the world of Word.

Movie and Markers - Thursday, February 1 at 4 PM – The Princess and the Frog (G) 98 min. [3+]

Join us on February 1st starting at 4 PM in the Library Community Room to watch The Princess and the Frog based on the combination of an updated fairytale and Southern African-American folklore.

To go along with the movie, coloring sheets and markers will be provided during the movie.

Movie popcorn has been generously provided by the Friends of the Parker Williams Library. 

Pokemon Club

Meet and battle other Pokemon gamers & trainers here at North Channel Library on Saturday, January 27 from 3-4pm.  There will be a Library Scavenger PokeHunt today! Bring your cards and/or Nintendo DS games for fun and enjoy crafts and refreshments too...Pokemon Club meets monthly and is recommended for children ages 6-12 years. No registration is required an we'll meet in the Public Meeting Room. 

Pokemon is licensed by Pokemon and Nintendo.

Texas Bluebonnet Voting on Frdiay, January 26 from 10am-6pm

Homeschooled children who would be in 3rd-6th grade can cast their vote for their favorite 2017-18 Texas Bluebonnet book this Friday, January 26 anytime from 10:00 am through closing at 6:00 pm.   There will be a registration box with ballots showing the Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees. The votes will be talled and sent into the Texas Library Association.  The winner will be announced in April.

 

Reading Help for Little Kids, Volunteer Hours for Teens

Book BuddiesParents with children in Kindergarten - 3rd grade: Do you want to help your child develop a love of reading? Then sign them up to be a Little Buddy!
Teenagers in 7th – 12th grade: Do you want to be a mentor? Do you need service hours? Then volunteer to be a Big Buddy!
Harris County Public Library's Book Buddies program pairs trained volunteers (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week to read children’s books together for 45 minutes.

Book Buddies Youth Literacy [6+] - Tuesday, February 6 at 5-5:45 PM

Book Buddies is a youth literacy program brought to you from the Harris County Public Library.

Book Buddies is for children from Kindergarten to third grade and will be held at the Parker Williams Branch Library starting on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 5:45 PM in the Library Community Room for ten consecutive weeks starting February 6th and ending April 10th.

Applications can be picked up at the Reference Desk and are due on Tuesday, February 6th.

Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+] - Saturday, January 27 from 2-4 PM

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on January 27th on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play from 2-4 PM.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

LEGO Robotics Camp Drawing Registration is extended to Tuesday, January 23

Due to Freeman Library"s closure for 2 days this week, we'll be extending the LEGO Robotics Camp registration for a drawing for spots through Tuesday, January 23.   This fun camp is for children 7-11 years old.   Due to space limits, we have a drawing for spots in the camp.  The camp will be running on the four Saturdays in February - 2/3, 2/10, 2/17 and 2/24.   We have a registration box at the Kids Information Desk.  Children whose names are drawin, will be notified by Friday, January 26.
