Faithful Paws at North Channel

Faithful PawsWe had a great turn out at today's Faithful Paws program. Join us next month on March 18th for another furry good time.
Faithful Paws is an organization that brings dogs who love to hear kids read to them! This monthly dog therapy program is for new and struggling readers to help build reading confidence and cuddle a new pal at the same time! Join us every third Saturday of the month at 2 PM in the Children's Area. 

*Date change in April due to Easter Holiday. Faithful Paws will be at the library on April 8 at 2:00 PM

STEM Time - African American Inventors and Engineers February 23rd @ 5 PM [8+]

      Have you ever wondered where the phrase, “The real McCoy” came from? Have you ever thought about who invented the traffic light as you waited for the green? Have you ever pondered, which came first, peanuts or peanut butter?

     Come and join us in the Library Community Room on February 23rd starting at 5 PM to learn more about the different contributions of African American inventors, scientists, and engineers.

Children: Join us in celebrating African American Heritage Month today at 4:30 pm

 The Children's Department will be observing African American History Month today at 4:30 pm with a crafts program for children ages 3-12 years old.   We will be making a colorful wreath in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King and a paper weaving craft.  We'll have a tasty snack of potato chips and a graham cracker "traffic signal" inspired by African American inventors.  Additionally, we'll have activity sheets and a variety of books available for checkout.  Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

• Tickets will be distributed starting one hour in advance of the session.

 

With the partnership of the Children’s Library at Lone Star College-CyFair,
pre-service teachers in EDUC 1301 will read and lead engaging literacy
activities that will incorporate science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM) concepts.

It Is Easy Being Green at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library

frogJoin us on Wednesday, February 15 at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM for a fun session of Toddler Time.  We are still learning our colors this month as we explore the color green.  Come  jump into the fun at Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library.

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children from 18 months to 3 years of age.  This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.

Toddler Time Valentine Party Rescheduled

Valentine PartyHAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY from the North Channel Staff.

Project Peep Begins @ N. Channel!

Project Peep begins Wednesday, February 15 here at North Channel Branch! That afternoon, you can  start viewing at least twenty eggs that will be incubating here at the Front Desk for approximately twenty-one days until they hatch...After that time, local foster families will be brooding them at home for a few weeks, but don't worry, we'll keep a couple of chicks here so you can keep observing their growth until Saturday, March 25. Please call the library at (281) 457-1631 for information about supplemental programs such as "Life Cycles" and "Eggs and More Eggs" for ages 6-12 years. Project Peep is a unique animal science program brought to Harris County Libraries through a grant provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).

Children's Weekly Run-Down


CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Happy Valentines! Join us this week on Thursday the 16th of February @ 4 PM for our World Tour Book Club to explore different countries and their traditions and stories.

We will be having a special Gardening Club program next Monday, the 20th. The Kingwood Garden Club is excited to host a special activity full of possibility! If you like crafts, this is the place to be. Space is reserved for 20 students, and the theme will be frogs. Registration begins this Monday, the 13th @ 9 AM.

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time** on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Preschool Storytime on Tuesday @ 2 PM, and Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft!

**Tickets required upon entry. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets will be given to the first 30 children and their caregivers the day of the scheduled event.

Valentine's Crafts for Children

  Children 3-12 years old are invited to make Valentine's Day crafts on Thursday, February 9 at 4:30 pm.  We'll be making a "heart man" and decorating Valentine's Day cards.  We'll also be decorating some tasty cookies for the occasion.

Tickets are required.  They'll be given out 30 minutes before the program.
