Kid’s Café - Free Lunches for Kids

Food bankThis summer, HCPL and the Houston Food Bank are offering free lunches on certain days of the week for children age 18 and under. At the Aldine location, we offer lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:00-1:00 pm, while supplies last. All children are welcome.

Kids Café - Free Lunches for Kids

Hello Everyone. HCPL has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to provide free nutritious lunches to kids 18 and under at select branches during the summer. Fairbanks Branch will be serving every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:30-1:30 pm, from June 6th to August 10th in the meeting room. There is no need to register and all children under 18 qualify. We are Moving and Grooving in Toddler Time at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library

dancingJoin us on Wednesday, June 7 at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM as we get our bodies moving.   Come sing, read and play with us at Toddler Time at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library.

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children from 18 months to 3 years of age.  This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.

Braveheart Water Balloon Battle

Join us for a true La Porte tradition on Thursday, June 8 at 2:00 pm. The Braveheart Water Balloon Battle XXI will take place. Dress to get wet. This program is recommended for children 6 or older.

Science Magic Show

Be astounded by Julian Franklin's Simple Machines Science Magic Show this Wednesday, June 7 at 2:30pm! "Work Smarter, Not Harder" is the theme of the show, which is for ages 4 and up in the Children's Area. Saturday Dinosaurs Rock

Dinosaurs RockSaturday, June 10th at 2:00 pm we will have Dinosaurs Rock.  Do you love dinosuars?  Come to the library and learn about incredible, museum quality fossils and minerals that you can actually see up close and touch. Each child will get a geode to break and take home.  This program is for ages 5-11 and is limited to the first 40.  Get a ticket 30 minutes early at the desk. Also, remember to sign up for the summer reading program and earn great prizes!

Summer Fun: Summer Reading Kickoff Party!

Catapult into summer with us at our Summer Fun: Kickoff Party on Tuesday, June 6th at 10:15 AM! Come make a cool catapult craft and learn more about how you can sign up for the Summer Reading Program and win prizes for reading and completing activites this summer. 

Summer Fun is geared towards school age children. Families are welcome. A free ticket is required to attend this program. Tickets will be available when the library opens at 10:00 AM. First come, first served.

Children's Programming Information - Summer 2017

We can't wait to kick off our Summer Reading Program on Monday, June 5th and we hope you will join us for some fun programs and storytimes! Due to large crowds in the summer, free tickets are required to attend all of the storytimes. Free tickets will be given out 15 minutes before the storytime at the Children's Information Desk. The child must be present to receive a ticket. This ensures a comfortable, safe and fun storytime environment for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation. We hope to see you soon!

Summer Reading Program 2017 starts on Monday, June 5

The 2017 Summer Reading Program officially starts on Monday, June 5.   The theme this year is "Build a Better World".   Children will be able to read and do activties to earn points towards a variety of rewards. Children can earn 5 points by reading 20 minutes, writing a review of a book, or doing an activity.  They can earn 10 points by reading a whole book.  Here are the rewards: 100 points - a fun sticker; 200 points - a Chipotle gift card; 300 points - a "Build a Better World" magnet; 400 points - a book from our treasure chest; and 500 points - an amazing medal.
