Join Us for Our 2nd Know Your Muslim Neighbor Event on 5/27!

Freeman Library and the Muslim American Society welcome you to join us for for our second "Know Your Muslim Neighbor Neighbor" Event on Saturday, 5/27 in the Marge Jacobson Community Room. We open the doors at 11:30 AM and invite people of all ages to learn historical facts about Islam and America! Please come, experience, and enjoy:

• Ethnic Food & Refreshments
• Henna Art
• Crafts for the kids
• Write your name in Arabic
• Brief presentations throughout about the Muslim community
• Islamic music
• Try on a Hijab 

STEAM Craft

Come learn about the origins and uses of the constellations and make your own constellation viewer this Monday at 4:30 pm.  All kids 5-11 are welcome.  Call 713-446-4438 for more information.

Maker Monday features Lego Free Play at 4:30 pm on Monday, May 15

Children 5-12 years old will enjoy attending Maker Monday this Monday, May 15 at 4:30 pm.  This weekly afterschool program for 5-12 years old is starting to wind down for the school year.  We'll have one more after this one before the summer program schedule starts in June.   This week, the children can play with Lego kits to make fun structures.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support of this program.

STEM Time – Ocean Waves and Ancient Travelers May 17th @ 5 PM [8+]

 

Have you ever wondered how people ever came to the various islands of the Pacific Ocean? What waves, technology, and navigation took them their?

Join us to learn about ocean waves, ancient navigation, and the different craft used by ancient seafarers to travel the Pacific islands in the Library Community Room on May 17th at 5 PM.

Asian Pacific Heritage Kid's Craft

Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month at the library by making  your own Vietnamese Fire-breathing Dragon this Wednesday, May 10 at 4:30pm! The festivities will be held in the Public Meeting Room where you can reward your hard work with a sampling of candies and treats from a variety of Asian countries. Our monthly kid's crafts are recomended for ages 4 and up and all materials are supplied. For more information or groups please contact North Channel Branch at (281) 457-1631.

Asian Pacific Heritage Month Children's Events

Visit us Saturday, May 13th at 2:00 pm to make a Chinese Dragon Puppet then stay to watch the Disney movie Mulan.  This Fish Printsevent is for children ages 5-11 and is limited to 30 kids.  Visit us Friday, May 26th at 3:30 pm to learn the Japanese art of Gyotaku, otherwise known as fish prints.  You can be serious and paint the fish realistic or fun creative colors.  When you leave take your fish painting with you as evidence of the cool fish you "caught" while at the library.  This event is presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife and is for children 6-11.  Limited to 20 kids. Get a free ticket for these programs 30 minutes before the program starts at the desk.

1,2,3 Move Your Body!

It is important that our bodies move for at least 30 minutes each day!

It’s even better when working out is FUN! Wear your workout clothes, lace up your sneakers, bring your water and join the fun including:

 

*15 minutes warm-up
*30 minutes work out
*15 minutes cool-down with story and healthy snack

Creative Corner

Do you like to build things and know how they work? We will be making working flashlights using household items and LED lights with our friends from Idea Lab Kids.

Para los Ninos Story Time

Join us on Wednesday, May 10th, at 6:00 pm for our Para los Ninos Bilingual Storytime!  Para los Niños is a fun, educational, bilingual workshop designed by the Children’s Museum of Houston for the whole family. We will be reading stories, singing songs and enjoying hands on learning activities that will make your child’s learning fun and exciting. This program is designed for children age 3-7 years old. Each family will be given a family ticket to the Children's Museum at the conclusion of the program. Space is limited and tickets will be handed out 30 minutes before the program
