Toddlers in Motion this Friday, October 20 @ 10:15 am

Toddlers and their caregivers will be dancing around on Friday morning October 20 at 10:15 am during Toddlers in Motion.  This program is recommended tor children 18 months to 3 years old.  There will be lots of movement and dance, so children should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  The children also will get to play with fun toys such as toddler-size grocery carts and vacuum cleaners.  Tickets are required.  They are free and available when the library opens at 10:00 am.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for funding many of the toys.

Tricks, Treats, and Tales

Everyone is welcome on Friday, October 27 at 4:30 pm to out Tricks, Treats, and Tales program. Come trick out some fantastic fall and Halloween crafts and attend one of our two Storytelling sessions. The attendance at the Storytelling sessions will be limited and tickets will be provided an hour before the program. Costumes are welcome! For more information call 713-466-4438.

Community Craft – Hocus Pocus (PG) and Billy Bones Skeleton Art October 26th @ 4 PM [All Ages]

Join us on Thursday, October 26th for a frightfully fun time watching Hocus Pocus.

The kids will be making Billy Bones skeleton art with cotton swabs.

Adults will be decorating wine glass candleholders in a variety of different variations.

Come have a spook-tacular time with us at the Parker Williams Branch in the Library Community Room.

Weird Science: Play with your Food, Monday, 10/23, 4:00-5:00 pm. Explore the science of doing weird things to your food. For ages 7-11.
Tween/Teen Movie Night, Tuesday, 10/24, 4:30-6:15 pm. Watch the weird, funny adventures of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Wednesday, Pugsley, Cousin It, Lurch, and Thing.
Texas Pioneer Life: Wednesday, 10/25, 5:00-6:00 pm. An expert on life in Texas in the 1800s will bring lots of artifacts that you can actually touch! For all ages.

Creative Corner

Halloween is right around the corner and Idea Lab Kids is joining us for a not-too-spooky Halloween-themed STEM project!

This program is for grades 1-5 and kindergartners with an adult.

 

Date: Wednesday, October 18

Time: 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Space is limited. Please arrive early to ensure participation.

Registration for after-school programs opens 30 minutes prior to the program.

ScribbleBots: Halloween Edition

Here at High Meadows, things are starting to get pretty spooky! Our scribblebot Kevin has a cousin, Kiki the Witch, and she loves to scribble. She's been hearing that our customers want to make scribble bots again and she's come to town to do just that. Join us tomorrow, 10/18/17 at 4pm and learn how to make Kiki the ScribbleBot.

STEAM Camp: NASA Space Science

Have you ever gazed upon the moon and wondered it's secrets? Discover many of them on Monday, October 16 at 6pm in a special STEAM Camp: NASA Space Science Program when we will explore the phases of the moon and more! Activities include a Lunar Storytime, an Edible Moon Phase Craft, and we can even take your photo "on the moon" with a Greenscreen! Children's Area and Public Meeting Room. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

Halloween Storytime and Dr. Frankenstein’s Lab Blindfold Tour October 28th @ 11:30 PM [6+]

On Saturday, October 28th at 11:30, the Parker Williams Branch Library will be hosting a special family Halloween Storytime in the children’s area.

We read a few books, sing a few songs, and have a costume parade around the library.

Afterwards, we will be taking those brave enough for a blindfold tour of Dr. Frankenstein’s Lab to touch some of the specimens and oddities.

Join us for a screaming good time. 

Yarn Pumpkin Craft

If you are looking for ways to decorate your room for the Fall, we have the perfect craft for you! Children ages 6-12 are invited to join us next Thursday, October 19 @ 4:30 pm for a Yarn Pumpkin Craft.

Find out how to use a ballon to give structure to your pumpkin and decorate it with a stem and leaves. This will be the perfect decoration for Fall, and you will be able to keep it as long as you like.

Do you think you are the scariest witch in town?  Do you have the coolest Stars Wars costume?  Come prove it!  Join us for a Halloween Costume Contest at Jacinto City Branch Library!

The costume contest will have two age categories, Kids (5-10 yrs) and Teens (11-17 yrs).

  • • Kids costume judging starts right at 6 PM
    • Teens will follow at 6:30 pm

There will be a prize for each age group!
