Next Baby Playtime is on Friday, May 19 at 10:00 am

  Join us Friday, May 19 at 10:00 am for Baby Playtime.  This program for babies from infants through 18 months features board books, toys, and bubbles.  We also include a creative project for baby and caregiver.  This month, we'll be making a cute giraffe with fingerprints.  No tickets are needed for this fun outing.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous financial support of this program throughout the years.

 

Miyazaki Inspired Display

MiyazakiMay is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. To celebrate, North Channel has a front lobby display of Miyazaki inspired art. Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, animator, and manga artist. A popular title of Miyazaki is My Neighbor Totoro which tells the adventure of two girls and their interaction with forest spirits.

Join us on Wednesday, May 10 at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM for a fun session of Toddler Time.  We will be celebrating mothers as we head toward Mother’s Day this weekend.  Come join the fun at Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library.

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children from 18 months to 3 years of age.  This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.

Family Program: Hawaiian Dancing

hawaiian dancingThis year, we are celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, held annually in May, with Hawaiian dancing! Join us on Saturday to learn some traditional Hawaiian dance moves from a guest instructor. This is a family program, so dancers of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend. This program will be held in the first floor Meeting Room (L129) this coming Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 am.

Children's Weekly Run-Down

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Join us this week on Thursday, the 11th of May, @ 4 PM for our World Tour Book Club to explore different countries and their traditions and stories.

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time** on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Preschool Storytime on Tuesday @ 2 PM, and Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft!

**Tickets required upon entry. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets will be given to the first 30 children and their caregivers the day of the scheduled event.

South Side Roller Derby Meet and Greet May 13th @ 1:30PM [7+]

Victoria Jamieson’s graphic novel Roller Girl is the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Award Winner, Newbery Honor Award Winner, and an inspiration for all those kids that are growing up and don’t quite know how to fit in.

On May 13th at 1:30, come and meet some real live Roller Girls from the South Side Roller Derby.

 

Learn the sport for our local heroes at the Parker Williams Library at 1:30 PM on May 13th.

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and we want to celebrate! Join us at the Barbara Bush Library for crafts, snacks and fun activities. This event is for children ages 5-12.

Teens:  Can you believe summer is just around the corner?  Are you looking for volunteer time this summer?  Join us this Saturday, May 6 @ 10:30 am or Saturday, May 20 @ 2 pm to find out about summer volunteer opportunities in the Children's Department at Freeman.  We'll have a brief talk about volunteer guidelines and then volunteers can sign up for volunteer shifts for the summer reading program.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Meet Author Dave Roman

On Thursday, May 4, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., our library will welcome Dave Roman, author and illustrator of the Astronaut Academy series for a program and book signing.  If you would like an authographed copy, bring your own Astronaut Academy book or purchase one at the library that day.

The program is recommended for grades 2 and up.
