OrigamiIn honor of Asian/Pacific-American Heritage Month, on Thursday, May 18, from 4:30-5:30 pm, we will have origami projects for all ages and skill levels! We will also provide authentic Asian-style snacks. Come and join the fun!

Space is limited for story time and after school programs. Please arrive early to ensure your participation; free tickets or sign-in sheet will be available 30 minutes prior to programs or 15 minutes prior to 10 a.m. programs.

Here Comes the Sun to Toddler Time at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library

sunshineJoin us on Wednesday, May 17 at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM as we read about the sun.  In order to prepare for our fun summer reading program, this will be our last Toddler Time until Wednesday, June 7.   Come sing, read and play with us at Toddler Time at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library.

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children from 18 months to 3 years of age.  This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Summer is coming up quickly and the Barbara Bush Library is in need of volunteers to help during the summer. We are in need of volunteers to help us shelve during various days and times throughout the week. 

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age or older and able to commit to at least 2 hours of service a week. Training is made available for all new volunteers.

You can also download an application by going to HCPL's Volunteer Page. Once you complete the application, drop it off at the Barbara Bush Library and we will contact you regarding volunteering! 

Children's Weekly Run-Down

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Happy Mother's day! Join us this week on Thursday the 18th of May @ 4 PM for our World Tour Book Club to explore different countries and their traditions and stories.

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time** on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Preschool Storytime on Tuesday @ 2 PM, and Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft!

**Tickets required upon entry. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets will be given to the first 30 children and their caregivers the day of the scheduled event.

Join Us for Our 2nd Know Your Muslim Neighbor Event on 5/27!

Freeman Library and the Muslim American Society welcome you to join us for for our second "Know Your Muslim Neighbor Neighbor" Event on Saturday, 5/27 in the Marge Jacobson Community Room. We open the doors at 11:30 AM and invite people of all ages to learn historical facts about Islam and America! Please come, experience, and enjoy:

• A Poster Exhibit
• Ethnic Food & Refreshments
• Henna Art
• Crafts for the kids
• Write your name in Arabic
• Brief presentations throughout about the Muslim community
• Islamic music
• Try on a Hijab 


Come learn about the origins and uses of the constellations and make your own constellation viewer this Monday at 4:30 pm.  All kids 5-11 are welcome.  Call 713-446-4438 for more information.

Maker Monday features Lego Free Play at 4:30 pm on Monday, May 15

Children 5-12 years old will enjoy attending Maker Monday this Monday, May 15 at 4:30 pm.  This weekly afterschool program for 5-12 years old is starting to wind down for the school year.  We'll have one more after this one before the summer program schedule starts in June.   This week, the children can play with Lego kits to make fun structures.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting at 4:00 pm.   Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their generous support of this program.

STEM Time – Ocean Waves and Ancient Travelers May 17th @ 5 PM [8+]


Have you ever wondered how people ever came to the various islands of the Pacific Ocean? What waves, technology, and navigation took them their?

Join us to learn about ocean waves, ancient navigation, and the different craft used by ancient seafarers to travel the Pacific islands in the Library Community Room on May 17th at 5 PM.
