Trek the Galaxy with NASA at the West University Library!

AstronautDo you have what it takes to trek the galaxy?  If you’re like me, you’ve definitely looked up at the night sky and wondered what it would be like to visit space.  Luckily for you, NASA @ My Library is coming right to your library!

Movie and Markers – Original Jumanji (PG) 105 Min December 14th @ 4 PM [10+]

Join us on December 14th starting at 4 PM in the Library Community Room To watch the original Jumanji based on the Chris Van Allsburg picture book.

To go along with the movie, coloring sheets and markers will be provided during the movie.

Movie popcorn has been generously provided by the Friends of the Parker Williams Library. 

Book Buddies coming to North Channel Library

Book BuddiesBook Buddies is a free program that brings children and volunteers together to share the joy of reading. It pairs trained volunteers, teens in 7th - 12th grade (Big Buddies) with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grades (Little Buddies). For 10 weeks, the Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes of shared reading.
North Channel is now taking applications for Big and Little Buddies. If you would like to be apart of this fun experience, please fill out an application at the front desk, or see staff for more information. 281-457-1631.

Make a Lego Bolo Tie on Saturday, December 9 @ 2:00 pm

  Here's a fun craft program for children 5-12 years old to do this Saturday, December 9 at 2:00 pm.  Leslie Eaton from the Houston Rodeo Speakers Committee will visit to talk about the history of the bolo tie and then children will get to make a lego bolo tie to show off around town or at the rodeo in a few months.  Tickets are required for this program.  They are free and given out from the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

Basic Life Skills – Buying Presents December 13th @ 5 PM [12+]

 

 

From Secret Santa to gifts on the big day, buying Christmas presents for others can be challenging.

Join Mr. John in the Library Community Room on December 13th at 5 PM to learn some tips and tricks to picking out the perfect gift. 

Holly & Latkes; Christmas and Hanukkah Storytime

Join the Fairbanks Library tomorrow December, 6 at 4:30 pm for the Holly and Latkes, Christmas and Hanukkah Story time. There will be storys, songs, and crafts. All ages are welcome, but space is limited. Pick up your ticket starting at 4:00 pm.

High-5 Club

Sticky, Sticky, Stuck!Saturday, December 9th at 3:00 PM join the High Five Science Club presented by the University of Houston Be a Teacher Club to learn about sticky stuff. We will be reading the book Sticky, Sticky, Stuck! by Michael Gutch. We will be doing a fun game and everyone will get to take home some treats and Christmas slime! Come to the desk 30 minutes before the program to get a free ticket. Space is limited.  For ages 1st-3rd grade.

December Events for Children

Here are some fun and festive events for children to attend this month:

Monday Maker Programs - These afterschool programs are on Mondays at 4:30 pm for children 5-12 years old.  Here are the themes - 12/4 - Catapults; 12/11 - Magnetic Mosaics; and 12/18 - Lego Free Play.  Free tickets are given out 30 minutes before the program.

Satrurday, December 9 - Make A Lego Bolo Tie at 2 pm.   Children 5-12 years can make a Lego Bolo Tie to show off at the Houston Rodeo in a couple of months  Leslie Eaton of the Houston Rodeo Speakers Committee will talk about western lore and then children will make the tie.  Tickets are required.  They'll be given out at 1:30 pm.

Sunset Storytime Tuesday, December 5th at Maud Marks

No Ghost Under My BedBring the entire family out to our bedtime storytime on Tuesday, December 5th at 6:30 pm. Children are welcome to wear their pajamas. We will have stories, songs and rhymes for the whole family. The Sunset Storytime theme this week is penguins!
