Honey Bear Wishes Everyone a Happy and Safe Fourth of July

Honey BearThe Katherine Tyra Library @ Bear Creek Branch will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th, but we will be open again on Wednesday, July 5th.  Come join us for Toddler Time at 10:15 AM or 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 5, as we explore the deep, blue ocean. 

Toddler Time is an early literacy program for children ages 18 months to 3 years of age. 

This is a ticketed program.  Free tickets and a craft are available in the children’s area of the library starting at 10:00 AM on the day of the program.  A ticket is required for the child who is the appropriate age for the program. Caregivers and siblings who are younger or older are not required to have a ticket to attend.  

Wednesday Summer Programs in July

Wednesdays at 2:30 PM the Parker Williams Branch Library will be hosting a variety of different programs in our Library Community Room throughout the nine week Summer Reading Program.

Mick Corely – Build a Better World - July 5th @ 2:30 PM [7+]Join us in the Library Community Room at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, July 5th for the comedy, magic, and life lessons from Mick Corely that inspire us to Build a Better World.

Baytown Wetlands Wagon - July 12th @ 2:30 PM [5+]
Just beyond our local streets lies a vast network of wetlands. Join us in the Library Community Room at 2:30 PM on July 12th to learn about the wetland ecosystem and even meet some of the animals that live there thanks to the naturalists from the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center.

Movies and Markers - Tuesdays at 2 PM in July

Join us in the Library Community Room on Tuesdays at 2 PM at the Parker Williams Branch for a fun film, free air conditioning, and coloring while the movie plays.

Ice Cream Science

Experiment with how ice cream is made and then taste the results! For all ages. No pre-registration is required. The program starts Thursday, July 6 at 2:00 pm.

Sorry we cannot accommodate Daycare groups for this program.

A Charmed Affair: Belle

Discover "A Tale as Old as Time" from Beauty and the Beast this Wednesday, June 28 at 2:30pm when Belle from a Charmed Affair visits the North Channel Library!  Hear her story, sing her song, and dance a little too... Join us in the Children's Area-there are no tickets required.  There will be an opportunity at the end of the program for families to take photos with Belle in a special setting with their own cameras in our Public Meeting Room.  Recommended for children ages 0-12 years and their parents/caregivers. Feel free to dress up or wear royal attire!

Thomas Davis "The Snakeman" visits Freeman Library on Thursday, June 29 for shows at 2:30 and 3:30 pm

   Psst...snakes in the library...Thursday, June 29, 2017...for shows at 2:30 and 3:30 pm.  Snakeman, Thomas Davis, will bring an assortment of snakes to show children on Thursday afternoon.   Mr. Davis will talk about the snakes and then pass them to teen and adult volunteers to hold so that children can get a good look at the snakes and touch them.   This program is recommended for children 5 years and older.   Tickets are required.  They are free and available starting 30 minutes before each session.

Birds, Books and Beyond

An interactive program presented by Houston Audubon Society featuring live hawks and owls! Come learn about birds, bird conservation and migration.

Date: Wednesday, June 28

Time: 3:00 p.m.

For ages 5-11

Space is limited. Free tickets will be available 30 minutes prior to program. Children must be able to sit through program on their own; adults and younger siblings will be admitted on a space available basis.

Superhero/Supervillian Academy

SuperCome to our special training sessions to learn how to be a superhero or a supervillain! You can design and make a mask and badge, get a hero or villain ID card, run an obstacle course and more! Thursday and Friday, July 6 and 7, from 2-4 pm. Come both days for different activities. The grand finale will be a final (pretend) battle between the heroes and villians!

Butterflies on Your Patio or Balcony!

Bullerfly-pentasWould you and your children like to see butterflies hanging around your patio or balcony? Then join us at the library on Saturday, July 8, at 11:00. A Master Gardener will tell us what plants we can plant in containers to attract butterflies. Then we will plant some in pots for you to take home with you. All adults are welcome, with or without children.

Discover and Build Bots with Meccano

RobotsMondays, June 26th, July 10th and July 24th from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm come and build a robotrobot at the library.  Build one of three different robots by Meccano using tools, then learn how to program and play with them.  Must have the assistance of one adult. This is a great summer family project to do with your child. We are limited to 15 at each 2 hour session.  Please come 30 minutes early to get a free ticket at the desk. This program for for ages 8-11. If you are older ages 12 and up, we have a program called Bot Build on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 pm.  You will group build the large 4 foot robot pictured.
