Tostada Time is Wednesday, 2/13 @ 6:30 PM!

Join Us Wednesday, 2/13 as the Freeman Taco Squad will show the audience how to make tasty tostadas. After the demo, attendees will be able to enjoy the prepared food.

This free event will require no registration. The refreshments prepared in this event will be provided by the Friends of Freeman Library and our local H-E-B.

Read Across America

Read Across America is an event which takes place in March and celebrates reading and literacy. Children are invited to our Read Across America program on Monday, March 4th at 4:00 pm. Participants will be able to play games, choose a free book to take home, and enjoy a slice of delicious cake. 

Thank you to Panaderia Tierra Caliente for the generous donation of a cake for our celebration.

 

 

African American Read In

Everyone is invited to our annual African American Read In, held in partnership with E.B.O.N.Y. We'll have author talks, a storyteller for the kids, kid's crafts, and our Curiosity Cruiser will be here! After the author talks, there will be refreshments and a chance to buy the author's books.

The event will be held at the Forum at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center located at 6823 Cypresswood Drive.

STEAM Tween Wednesday: Graphic Novel Egg Painting at 4:30 pm on 2/20

  Tweens 8-12 years old will have a great time on Wednesday, February 20 @ 4:30 pm when they paint eggs to look like their favorite graphic novel characters.  We'll provide the eggs (they're wooden) and the paints.   The tweens just need to provide the creativity.  Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program by funding the art supplies.

Non-Fiction for African American History Month

February is African American History Month, a time dedicated to “paying tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society” (africanamericanhistorymonth.gov. Last week it was all about fiction, so now we're moving on, to non-fiction. Regardless of age, there's somehting here for everyone. 

 

 

 

Pokemon Club

Meet and battle other Pokemon gamers & trainers here at North Channel Library on Saturday, February 23 from 3-4pm!  Bring your cards and/or Nintendo DS games for fun and enjoy a themed craft or activity and refreshments too! Pokemon Club meets monthly and is recommended for children ages 6-12 years. No registration is required. We wil be meeting in the Public Meeting Room.

Pokemon is licensed by Pokemon and Nintendo.

Child Safety Event at the Library / Evento de seguridad infantil en la biblioteca

Child ID[En español abajo] An estimated 460,000 children are reported missing every year in the United States. The timely and accurate distribution of child identification information plays a critical role in locating missing children. Volunteers from the Child ID Program will be at the Aldine Library on Thursday, February 21, at 10:30 am to make FREE ID cards for your kids. This ID system was created with help from law enforcement officials to ensure it captures all of the vital information required by the Amber Alert system. They are completely free, and the process only takes about 5 minutes per child. No information about the child is kept by anyone other than the parent or guardian.

Monday, February 25th at 6:30 PM – Chess Club [8 to Adult]

 

 

 

New to the Parker Williams Branch Library, we are exploring the interest in the Southbelt area for a Chess Club.

Chess is a two player, strategy game that is played by people all over the world.

Staff members will be available to teach beginners how to play.

Chess Club will be held on the Library Floor on February 25th, at 6:30 PM. 

Children's Weekly Run Down!

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Our school year programming continues at Full Steam Ahead! Our weekly STEAM activity is this Thursday @ 4 PM. 

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and Thursday, and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday @ 11 AM. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft! Tickets required upon entry for Infant Lapsit, Toddler Time, and Preschool Storytime. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets are limited and will be available the day of the scheduled event.
