Board Game Nation

Board Game Nation is back!  Come play with us in the meeting room!  Games range from classics like chess to new favorites like Werewolf.  You're welcome to bring your own games, as well!

International Festival

Join us Saturday, April 27th for our International Festival. Festivities will begin at 11am and end at 1pm. 

Pick up a boarding pass and passport at the children's desk and take a trip around the world without leaving the library.

Community members will represent various countries from around the world including China, Jamaica, Mexico, the Philippines, France, El Salvador, India and more. At 12 pm, we will have a special dance performance by the Houston Northwest Chinese Association in the EER.

Wednesday, April 24th at 5 PM – STEM Time – Poetry of Science [8+]

 

 

April is National Poetry Month, and we will be combining the art of poetry with the vocabulary of science.

Join us in the Community Room on Wednesday, April 24th at 5 PM to make some poetry with the various scientific terms and jargon that are thrown around classrooms all throughout the year. 

STEAM Tween Wednesday: Snap Circuits on Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 pm

Tweens 8-12 years old will have a great time learning about circuits during STEAM Tween Wednesday on this Wednesday, April 17 at 4:30 pm.  This afterschool program features circuits that can be put together to recreate doorbells, alarms, and other fun gadgets.  Free tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

H-E-Buddy Cooking Class

**A free ticket is required and can be picked up at the children's information desk 15 minutes prior to the program. Children must be present to receive tickets.**

H-E-Buddy will be stopping by on Tuesday, April 16th @ 5pm to teach basic cooking techniques and introduce new foods, enabling children to make healthy choices.

Children's Weekly Run Down!

CHILDREN’S WEEKLY RUN-DOWN! Our school year programming continues at Full Steam Ahead! Our weekly STEAM activity is this Thursday @ 4 PM. 

Our Story times continue as normal! Be here for Toddler Time on Tuesday @ 10 AM and @ 10:30 AM, Infant Lapsit Storytime @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and Thursday, and Preschool Storytime on Wednesday @ 11 AM. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @ 10:30 where you can enjoy stories and a craft! Tickets required upon entry for Infant Lapsit, Toddler Time, and Preschool Storytime. Pick up your free ticket at the Children's Reference Desk before entering your story time. Tickets are limited and will be available the day of the scheduled event.

Pajama Storytime on Thursday, April 11 @ 6:00 pm

  Looking for a fun outing your little night owls?  Join us Thursday, April 11 at 6:00 pm for Pajama Storytime.  This evening storytime features books, songs, fingerplays, and a fun craft!  Best of all - children are welcome to hang out in their pajamas or bring a stuffed animal friend for the program.  Tickets are given out at 5:30 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this program.

Texas Bluebonnet Booktalk this Thursday, April 11 @ 4:30 pm

  Tweens 8-12 years old will have a great time creating a superhero mask during the Texas Bluebonnet Booktalk on Thursday, April 11 at 4:30 pm.   We'll have a brief booktalk about 2019-2020 Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees Captain Superlative and Saving Winslow.  After the booktalk, we'll see a couple of short videos related to these realistic fiction books and then we'll decorate a superhero mask using gliiter glue, stickers, and ribbons.  Tickets for this program will be available at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for their support of our programs.

STEAM Tween Wednesday: Sweet Treat Creations

  Tweens 8-12 years will enjoy using their measuring skills and creativity as they prepare delicious treats during STEAM Tween Wednesday on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:30 pm.  The children will use chocolate, rice krispiies and more to make a yummy springtime snack.

Tickets will be given out at 4:00 pm.  Thank you to the Friends of Freeman Library for supporting this fun and tasty program.

Monday, April 15th from 6-7:30 PM – Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+]

 

 

 

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on the first and third Monday of April from 6PM -7:30PM on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.
