August Computer Classes

InternetIn August, we are offering the following computer classes:

Computer Basics—August 3
Beginner Internet—August 10
Beginner Excel—August 17
Intermediate Excel—August 24
Mobile Devices One-on-One—August 31

All classes are scheduled for Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  One-on-one sessions are 30 minutes each.  You are welcome to bring your own device.

Fantasy Football 101

There are still openings for our #FantasyFootball101 class happening on July 31st at 7pm.

To succeed in fantasy football, you will need the business shrewdness of a general manager, the knowledge of a pro scout, and the strategy of a head coach. Fantasy football allows you to compose and control your own team of NFL players. Learn the fundamentals of the game and discover where you can play different types of fantasy football to compete against friends and/or strangers.

Adults - Thursday, 7/27 @ 6:30 - YouTube Basics for Content Creators!

Have you ever wanted to use your webcamera to create videos and promote them through YouTube? Many people are creating engaging, fun content on YouTube, some of whom have even launched careers through it! Basics of account creation and management will be discussed, as well as a quick tutorial on how to create a trailer reaction video.

This Summer Reading Program event assumes a basic mastery of computers, internet usage, and email usage from its attendees. The Friends of Freeman Library support this program.

LOOKING FOR A JOB?

Do you need help with online searching and online job applications?  The Katy Branch Library is offering a class on Monday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. to help you with your job search.  The class will cover conducting job searches online as well as practice applying on a job search engine, such as Indeed.com and Monster.com.  No registration is necessary.

Microsoft Publisher for flyers, postcards, invitations and more

Do you need to make flyers, brochures, invitations, postcards, newsletters, or other kinds of publications for your small business, church group or other organization? A good option is Microsoft Publisher, which enables you to easily place text and pictures on the page in whatever sizes or configurations look best, and it is available on library computers (easily save as PDF to open up on any other computer). Come to a free introductory session on Thursday, July 20 at 3 p.m. to learn the basics. Website design with WIX

In the online age that we live in, having a professional website is an absolute necessity for nearly all career choices and business ventures. A great website can simultaneously operate as a marketing tool, a store platform, a display of works and skills, a communication channel and as an engine for branding. Ability Level: Intermediate. Requirements: Must be able to type, use mouse, have an email address and have some familiarity with social media. Dates: July 8th and July 22nd at 10:00am. 

Free Computer Class on Excel

Join us for a free 2 hour computer class on Excel. We will show you the Data entry and editing techniques in Microsoft EXCEL 2013. The class will be held Thursday, July 6 beginning at 10:30 am.

Yoga Basics for Adults (Ages 18+): Saturday, July 15, 10:30 am. Rosalinda Segovia-Robertson, National Association of Certified Yoga Teachers, will present a class on Yoga Basics. Dress comfortably.

Book Discussion: ‘The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper: A Novel’ by Phaedra Patrick. Monday, July 17, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper stopped engaging with life a year ago when his wife of 40 years died. But the discovery among her things of a charm bracelet he'd never seen before prompts a quest to discover the origins of the bracelet and all of its charms. History of the Moon as Revealed by the Apollo Program: Saturday, July 22, 10:30 am. Where were you in July 1969, when Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the moon? Walter Kiefer, a scientist from the Lunar and Planetary Institute, will give a fascinating talk on what the Apollo program taught us about the moon’s history. Geared toward adults, but teens and children who like science or history will also enjoy! No registration required.

Free Computer Classes - Digital Media

One of the great things about having a library card is 24/7 access to free downloadable books, movies, music, and more.  On June 27 & 29, from 3 - 5 pm, Crosby Branch Library will offer classes focusing on the digital media collection.  If you would like help getting started on Overdrive, Flipster, Hoopla, and/or One Click Digital, please join us!  For more information, or to register, please ask at the front desk, or call during our regular operating hours.
