New Program Times in February

Starting in February, several programs at the South Houston Branch Library will have new times:

Baby Time - Tuesdays at 1:15 PM
Story Time - Tuesdays at 4:30 PM
Walk Away the Pounds/Pierda Libras Caminando - Tuesdays at 10:15 AM 
Computer Classes in English - Tuesdays at 10:30 AM
Computer Classes in Spanish - Thursdays at 10:30 AM

Word Basics [8+] - Wednesday, January 31 at 5 PM

 

 

Microsoft Word is one of the most used programs in the world.

It is a word processing application that can do a lot of simple or crazy things.

Join Mr. John in the Computer Lab on January 31st at 5 PM for a basic introduction into the world of Word.

Free Computer Classes

Remember that your public library offers free computer classes. The English-language classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. They cover the basics of computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones and commonly-used software like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Click here for more details.

Let's talk about the technology issues concerning you! People from Freeman Library will be here to address questions about desktops/laptops, smartphones, digital tablets, HCPL eMedia, and more.

iPhone 101 @Maud Smith Marks Branch Library

Did Santa bring you a new iPhone? Did you already have one and want to get better at using it? Are you thinking about getting one and want to see what the hype is all about? No matter what your stance, The Maud Smith Marks Branch has  got you covered.

We will be debuting a new class this month and it is all about the iPhone. Learn how to navigate around the phone. Learn the basics of using the pre-installed apps, downloading apps, and become efficient in using your device. Classes will run on January 9 at 10 AM and again on January 23 at 7 PM.

Guest Speaker- Making Healthier Food Choices: Saturday, January 20, 10:30 am-11:30 am. Jing Ping, a Senior Research Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center, will give an informative program about food choices you can make to reduce cancer risk and improve your overall health. Free No registration required.

Book Discussion for Adults- Only Time Will Tell by Jeffrey Archer: Monday, January 22, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. Join us to discuss Only Time Will Tell, the first title in the compelling Clifton Chronicles series. Compelling historical fiction, this epic story begins in 1920 with Harry Clifton, a dock worker in Bristol, England. Free. For Ages 18+. No registration required. 

Bring Your Tablet or Smartphone

Did you receive a new tablet or smartphone for Christmas? Do you have a tablet or phone but aren't too familiar with it, and have questions about how to download apps, read e-books, take pictures, and more? Bring your tablet or smartphone to our free help session at the South Houston Branch Library on Saturday, January 6 @ 1:30 PM and get answers to questions you may have about working with your device.

Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint

Are you interested in getting more out of your Microsoft PowerPoint program?  Maud Marks Library has the class for you!  On Saturdays, December 2 at 1 PM, and December 9 and 16 at 10 AM, Mr. Uday Chittal will be going beyond the basics of how to use Microsoft PowerPoint.  Really learn the intricacies of this program.  This is a three part class.  Participants should be able to come to all three classes.  Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required.  Seating for this is extremely limited.
