Adults - Coming Thursday, 3/1 to your friendly Adult Services/Reference Desk - March Adult Crafts-To-Go Kits!

Please stop by beginning this Thursday for your own Adult Crafts-To-Go kit! This month's project, a decorative magnet (see picture), will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last.

Craft & Computers - T-Shirt Design

Kids ages 8-12 are invited to design their own t-shirt using computers and our brand new Cricut machine at the Fairbanks Branch Library on Friday, March 9 at 4:00 pm.  There will be lessons on finding images online and editing them for their needs.  All kids will go home with their original t-shirt!  Space is limited so please call 713-466-4438 to register.

Kid's Pick Book Club

All kids between the ages of 8-12 are invited to the Kid's Pick Book Club at the Fairbanks Branch Library on Monday, Feb. 25 at 5 pm.  This month we're focusing on non-fiction books.  The kids can pick any book that falls under non-fiction to read and talk about.  If you don't have time to read it before Monday, come anyway!  We'll also be making a craft.  Call 713-466-4438 for more information.

Crafting for Adults-Basic Sewing: Hem & Button

Photo of sewing supplies by Irene Cantu.Are your skills in sewing a source of embarrassment? Mine are to me! Ms. Irene is here to fill in the gaps of what some of us did not learn about sewing on the path to adulthood.

In this first session, you will learn how to sew a button and hem a garment. Even if you already have a little knowledge about these skills, this class will help you learn new tips. Irene is an excellent and patient teacher! During this session, she will ask what other classes are desired in the area of basic sewing.

Saturday Happenings for the Family

Join us for Faithful Paws and a family storytime celebrating the Olympics at the Fairbanks Library on Saturday, February 17.
All school-age kids are welcome to practice their reading skills by reading a story to a furry, certified, non-judgmental audience starting at 2 pm. The kids can bring their own book or choose one from the library collection.

At the storytime we'll be reading winter sports books and making a craft. There will also be a contest for kids, teens, AND adults! The storytime starts at 3:30, but come in anytime to participate in the contest. The winner will be contacted on Monday, February 19.

Yarn Fox Tail Craft for Teens at LSC-Tomball Library

2 foxes touching nosesTeens ages 11-18 join us next Wednesday, February 21 at 5pm for a fun hour of crafting.  We'll be making super cute and fluffy fox tails out of colorful yarn. You can wear them or carry them on a keychain, your choice. All materials and supplies will be provided. No registration is required. Meet us in Room L129.

African American History Month Celebration

February is African American History Month, and we invite you to celebrate the importance of African American culture and history with us. The South Houston Branch Library will be having an African American History Month Celebration on Monday, February 19 at 5:00 pm. All ages are welcome to join us for fun and activities during this celebration. 

You can find a wide variety of historical and biographical books and resources in our library catalog, and if you would like more information about this program, please contact the branch at 832-927-5530.

Black History Month at North Channel

traffic lightTo help us celebrate Black History Month at North Channel Library, we will have a children's craft to help us learn about a talented African American Inventor.
Garrett Morgan invented the traffic light in 1923. His other inventions included hair cream, hair dye, hair straightening comb, gas mask, and a belt fastener for a sewing machine. 
Join us today, February 14th at 4:30 PM in the Public Meeting Room to make your own traffic light, enjoy a light snack, and play a fun game of Red light, Green light. 

February Crafts for Grown-ups

Snowflake Papercrafting [All Ages] - Thursday, February 15 at 4 PM

 

 

 

Make Houston snow again on Thursday, February 15th at 4 PM in the Library Community Room as we will be making paper snowflakes.
