Teen DIY & A Movie – Baby Groot and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 (PG-13) 121 min. May 12th @ 4 PM [13+]

Starlord and his crew have returned in theaters for the second installment of GOTG. For those who may need a refresher or to see the first movie, we are going to be spinning Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 while making Baby Groots.
Join us on Friday, May 12th at 4 PM in the Library Community Room for food, fun, and Groots.

Join us in the Library Community Room on May 11th for the movie Moana (PG, 107 min) in celebration of the diverse mythology of the Polynesian culture.

Celebrate this piece of Asian Pacific Heritage with us starting at 4 PM as we make paper leis while watching the movie.   

 

May Adult Crafts-To-Go Kits Are Here!

Adults - stop by the upstairs Reference Desk and pick up an Adult Crafts-To-Go kit. This month, we're making an upcycled bookmark (as pictured). This free kit will include all materials necessary as well as instructions. This project will be available to adult patrons while supplies last.

Book Discussion- ‘Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet’ by Jamie Ford: Monday, May 15, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, join us for a discussion of this historical fiction novel. Henry, a Chinese American, remembers a young Japanese American girl from his childhood in the 1940s--Keiko Okabe--with whom he forged a bond of friendship and innocent love that transcended the prejudices of their Old World ancestors.

Celebrate Local Artist!

The Maud Marks Library invites YOU to come celebrate local artists with us this week.  We have so many opportunities for you to meet the many artist living here in Katy and the Houston area.  First, join us tonight, Monday April 17, at 6:30 pm as Gilberto Mello talks about his art and creative process.  Rick Spacek will be here tomorrow, Tuesday April 18 at 6:30 to give his artist talk and show ups what it takes to carve wood.  On Thursday April 20 at 3:30, Zineb Trifi will be at a very special TeenMakers to show teens and pre-teens the creative side of painting.  

Finally, on Friday April 21, join all our artists for a special Meet the Artist reception at 7 PM.  Come view theier work and find out how they get their inspiration!

STEAM Maker Craft

All kids ages 5-10 are invited to make LED Magnet throwies this Tuesday, April 11 at 4:30 pm.  This STEAM craft involves basic electronics and circuits. Call us at 713-466-4438 to reserve your spot!

Celebrate Local Artists With Family Art

During the month of April, the Maud Marks Library is celebrating local artists!  Throughout the month, some of those artists will be stopping by to do art talks and workshops.  First up, this Saturday, April 8 at 3 PM, Meghna Patil will be here to show elementary school aged children the fine art of painting.  Children and their parents are invited to come and create their own masterpieces as we learn more about Ms. Patil's art and her painting process.  This is a ticketed event.  Please show up at 2:30 for tickets.  Afterwards, be sure to check out the many paintings and sculptures throughout the library.  The Maud Marks Library would like to thank the Friends of the Maud Marks Library for sponsoring this month long event as we Celebrate Local Artists!
