Written in the Stars: READ!

Welcome to the beginning of our National Teen Reads Week! This is an annual celebration of our teen literature, and a time where we encourage our teens to read more (as opposed to our normal agenda, which is to discourage reading and hide books. We are a library after all.). However, if you aren’t a teen, don’t let that discourage you from celebrating this week. Everyone can come to the library and do something to participate in this amazing event. Here are some of our suggestions on how to reach for the stars at the library this week:

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

We at the Evelyn Meador Branch Library recognize and love the diversity of our community. It’s a wonderful thing to have people of different cultures and backgrounds associate and trade ideas. We love this aspect for our community and want to do everything we can to foster this. As such, the library is excited to be spending the next month celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. This wonderful celebration will allow us to learn more about Hispanic cultures, and gain a greater appreciation of the great things they have. Here are a few of the things that you can do at the library to gain a better appreciation of Hispanic culture.

And We're Back

we're open

The library is open regular hours today, 8am-6pm. View regular and holiday hours online.

Happy Stay Out of the Sun Day!

For those of you reading this post on July 3, have a wonderful Stay Out of the Sun Day! We at the Evelyn Meador Branch Library hope you are celebrating this important national holiday appropriately by staying inside and reading a book, the way that every holiday should be celebrated. If not, make sure that you are wearing lots of sunscreen, and keeping cool while you are outside reading your book. It would be a shame if you got sunburned while you were outside reading, and we would really rather you not get hurt when you are reading your book ever. Physically at least. We can’t help you if you get emotionally hurt.

The Northwest Branch Library will be closed on Indepenence Day

The Northwest Branch Library will be closed Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 in observance  of Independence Day. The library will resume normal operating hours at 10:00am on Thursday, July 5th, 2018. Electronic Resources will be available during the closure, customers can return their items via the after hours bookdrop. Congress established Independence Day as a holiday in 1870, and in 1938 Congress reaffirmed it as a paid holiday for federal employees. Today, communities across the nation mark this major midsummer holiday with parades, firework displays, picnics and performances of "The Star-Spangled Banner" and marches by John Philip Sousa.

July 4th Holiday Hours

In observance of the July 4th holiday this year, The Barbara bush library will be closing at 5pm tomorrow, Tuesday July 3. We will remain closed for July 4th. We will resume normal business hours on the following day. Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday!

Take a Staycation with our Online Resources

During the summer it can be hard to get to your local library. You might be on vacation in a different state, it might be too hard to get the kids in the car, or it might just be too hot (or rainy) to leave the house.  If that’s the case for you, but you’re still hankering for some entertainment, the library is still the place to help you. We have access to tons of databases and online catalogs on our website that can still help you! Here are just a few of them:
