Get a Book Date for Valentine's Day!

Books will always love you and be there for you. It’s one of those comforting facts of life. In a lot of ways they’re better than people. I mean, they don’t wake you up in the night, they wait until you're ready for them, they don’t eat your food, and the list goes on. So, in recognition of that fact, we recommend that instead of making sure you have a date tonight, you should celebrate this Valentine’s Day right by visiting the library and getting a great book to read. Here’s some of our recommendations to try:

Valentine’s Day Party

High Meadows Branch Library is having a Valentine's Day party on February 14th, from 5 P.M.-7:00 P.M. We will have crafts, cupcakes, and more. Make sure to get here early before supplies run out. This event is open to elementary and middle school students.

Contact Kimberley at (832) 927-5538 for more information.

Teen No-Sew Pillow

Teens ages 12 and up are invited to a fun Valentine's Day craft activity on Wednesday, February 6 @ 4:30 pm. Come by and create a heart-shaped pillow perfect for Valentine's Day. All materials are provided by the Friends of the South Houston Library.

Celebrate African American History Month With Us!

I love our national holidays that celebrate history and culture. Working at the library, I get the opportunity to plan and participate in programs that teach me more about cultures and to interact with peoples that I wouldn’t get to otherwise. That is why I am so excited that February is African American History Month and you should definitely be too. We have some amazing activities for all ages that will allow you to learn more about African American heritage and history, while having fun at the same time. Here are some of the great activities we have planned:

Wiggle with Words, presented by Jalia Movement Arts- Wednesday, February 6, 11:00 AM

Keep Your New Year’s Resolution this Year

With the holidays over and 2019 finally here, we’ve all set our New Year’s Resolutions. However, I’m sure at least some of you are worried that this year will be exactly like last year, where halfway through January your goals were already given up. If that is the case, don’t worry. The library is here to help you accomplish those resolutions and have fun during the process. With a variety of events, resources, and opportunities, there’s no goal that we can’t help you with. Here’s just a few of the ways we can help you out:
