Summer is Here, Time to Read!

The Harris County Public Library is starting it’s Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories”, on June 3rd, so it’s almost time to start reading! This year, record your reading on our website, or sign up on the Beanstack app, to earn points and prizes for all ages. Then come to the library to collect your prizes, like books, earbuds, and gift certificates.

Also, don’t forget to pick up a calendar of summer events at the library, or check them on our online calendar, so that you don’t miss out on great programs for all ages like educational classes, fun festivals, crafts, and other events.

Happy Mother's Day!

Just because the Evelyn Meador Library is closed on Sunday doesn’t mean that we don’t love and celebrate Mother’s Day. We appreciate all the moms in our community who do so much to help their kids and teach them to read and come to the library. To help you celebrate Mother’s Day, here are some great children’s books about mothers that would be perfect reads this Sunday (or any time you want to read about moms):

-My Mommy Hung the Moon by Jamie Lee Curtis & Laura Cornell: A hard-working mother's extraordinary accomplishments are listed by her devoted child.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and we will be celebrating all month long at the Evelyn Meador Library. With displays throughout the library and some great programs for all ages, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to celebrate as well! Here’s what you can come and do at the library this month:

• May 14, 4:00 PM- Join us as we create our own mandalas. A mandala is a symbolic picture of the universe. Mandalas date from the 4th century and traditionally have been created around the world in places such as Tibet, India, Nepal, China, Japan, Bhutan, and Indonesia for purposes both sacred and secular.

Mother's Day Craft Box

Children ages 6 and up are invited to our Mother's Day craft on Wednesday, May 1st at 4:30 p.m. Come by the library to decorate a small box to gift to a special mother in your life, which can be used as a jewelry or other special trinket box.
