Poetry Reading at the Evelyn Meador Library

This Saturday at 2:00 PM, there will be a Poetry Reading at the Evelyn Meador Library in celebration of National Poetry Month. Five local poets, Choonwah Moon, Matthew Riley, Weasel Patterson and David E. Cowen, and Susan Musch, published in a variety of journals and anthologies, will be reading from their own works during this program. This program promises to be an inspiring and powerful presentation for Poetry lovers of all ages.

International Festival

Join us Saturday, April 27th for our International Festival. Festivities will begin at 11am and end at 1pm. 

Pick up a boarding pass and passport at the children's desk and take a trip around the world without leaving the library.

Community members will represent various countries from around the world including China, Jamaica, Mexico, the Philippines, France, El Salvador, India and more. At 12 pm, we will have a special dance performance by the Houston Northwest Chinese Association in the EER.

Journal Group

Everyone is invited to this beginner's writing group. Participants write a few pages each time in response to suggested prompts, and share if they wish in an informal setting.

Our next meeting is Monday, April 15th @ 1:30pm.

Celebrate National Library Week with Us!

April 7-14 is National Library Week and we want you to celebrate with us! Here's what we have planned all next week and how you can join us in sharing your love for the library. 

We will have our #ilovemylibrary frame out at the customer service desk for you to come by and snap a photo showing your love for your library. Post it to social media and tag us!

April 7 marks the beginning of National Library Week this year. This is an annual event that helps recognize the impact libraries have on communities and individuals. There are lots of ways for you to recognize this event and learn a little bit more about the library while you’re at it. Here are some of the ways that you can celebrate having such a great library (no need for false modesty) in the community:

Passionate About Poetry

Come celebrate the 'language of love' with a special story time this Satruday, April 6th @ 2pm and explore the world of rhythm and rhyme. Family program appropriate for children of all ages. Meet in the Children's area. Stories read by Miss of Alivia of the L.O.L. Youth Book Club.

The Friends of Evelyn Meador Library Annual Meeting

The Friends of Evelyn Meador Library invite you to attend the 2019 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd in the Wallach Community Room of the Evelyn Meador Library. With Seabrook Mayor Thom Kolupski and Seabrook City Manager Gayle Cook speaking, this is sure to be a fantastic event! Come learn about the status of Seabrook, the Highway 146 Expansion Project, and about how you can help the library. 

The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM, but please come early to mingle and have refreshments starting at 6:30 PM. Seating is limited but everyone is welcome!

Cursive Writing for Kids

Due to popular demand, we are happy to announce another cursive writing program for children ages 5-12. Join us on Tuesday, April 2nd @ 5pm for another cursive writing class! 

Learn the basics of cursive writing and get some practice sheets to take home.

**A free ticket is required and can be picked up at the children's information desk 15 minutes prior to the program. Children must be present to receive tickets.**

Try Our New Kits!

The Evelyn Meador Library is happy to announce the release of our Maker and Busy Kits for Children and Teens! These kits are available for checkout to use in the library, and will allow all ages access to our great library resources, like Legos, marble works, puppets, and doll houses! These kits are designed to help kids learn and have fun! Our Maker Kits are available for check out to anyone 10 and older and can be found at the Teen Isle Desk. The Busy Bags and Boxes can be checked out by anyone 8 and older and can be found at the Children’s desk. Come in today to check them out, and make sure you check them regularly.

Read Across America

Read Across America is an event which takes place in March and celebrates reading and literacy. Children are invited to our Read Across America program on Monday, March 4th at 4:00 pm. Participants will be able to play games, choose a free book to take home, and enjoy a slice of delicious cake.
