Happy Mother's Day!

Just because the Evelyn Meador Library is closed on Sunday doesn’t mean that we don’t love and celebrate Mother’s Day. We appreciate all the moms in our community who do so much to help their kids and teach them to read and come to the library. To help you celebrate Mother’s Day, here are some great children’s books about mothers that would be perfect reads this Sunday (or any time you want to read about moms):

-My Mommy Hung the Moon by Jamie Lee Curtis & Laura Cornell: A hard-working mother's extraordinary accomplishments are listed by her devoted child.

Celebrate National Library Week with Us!

April 7-14 is National Library Week and we want you to celebrate with us! Here's what we have planned all next week and how you can join us in sharing your love for the library.

We will have our #ilovemylibrary frame out at the customer service desk for you to come by and snap a photo showing your love for your library. Post it to social media and tag us!

Celebrate National Library Week

April 7 marks the beginning of National Library Week this year. This is an annual event that helps recognize the impact libraries have on communities and individuals. There are lots of ways for you to recognize this event and learn a little bit more about the library while you’re at it. Here are some of the ways that you can celebrate having such a great library (no need for false modesty) in the community:

Computer Classes @ Barbara Bush Library

Did you know that computer classes are back at the Barbara Bush Library? Our schedule of classes changes monthly in order to cover a wide variety of topics. Classes do require registration which can be done online here, or by contacting the library.

If you are interested in signing up for a class or would like more information, please call us at 832-927-7800. We look forward to seeing you in a class!

Programs and services are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliant. Special accommodations can be requested in advance by contacting the library.

Make the Holidays Easier with Ebooks!

Now that that December is really here, life is getting more and more difficult. People are travelling, which leads to cranky road trips, stores and roads get crowded with all the holiday shoppers, and it just seems like you have less and less time to get everything done. All those things combined means that it gets harder and harder to get to the library and get the books that you need to keep your sanity. Fortunately, your HCPL website is here to help, offering electronic books and audiobooks that you can download, read or listen to, and return, without any need to go to the library! That’s right! You can have books for road trips, audiobooks for traffic, and you get this with just a click of a button, no need to go outside! What’s more, we have plenty of sites to choose from.

Celebrate Holidays with the Library

Now that November has come around, we are all preparing for Thanksgiving, that big holiday at the end of the month. However, there are a lot of other holidays this month that just get overlooked in our turkey preparation. Yeah, Thanksgiving is fun, but should it so blatantly overshadow Have a Party with Your Bear Day (Yeah, look it up. It’s worth a Google)? Or what about the equally important National Fast Food Day? Should that be passed over for a holiday that we just go and eat food? We agree with you that it should absolutely not! So, to help correct this egregious oversight, we at the library are happy to provide some books to help you properly celebrate some of these other holidays (as well as letting you know when these are). You’re welcome.

Re Opening Soon!

We are happy to announce that the Barbara Bush Library will be reopening on Monday, May 14th at 1pm. It's been a long road from August 2017 when Hurricane Harvey put us out of commission, but we are back and ready to serve the community again.

There will be a grand opening planned for June 2018. Details on that will be coming soon!

We can't wait to see you all again!
