Summer Reading Summary

Now that our Summer Reading Program is officially over, and everyone is coming in to get their prizes (by the way, if you haven’t gotten your prize, come to the Reference Desk before August 18th to get it), we at the Evelyn Meador Library thought it might interest our patrons to find out how our Summer Reading Program went. As such, we decided that we would share some of our statistics for summer reading and show how great our summer went.

Hurricane Watch

Now that our Summer Reading Program is drawing to a close (come and get your prizes if you haven’t already), we at Evelyn Meador Branch Library are moving into a little bit of downtime until school starts. However, we still have a lot to offer the community that you should come in to see. With the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey coming up, and with hurricane season still in full swing, we want to help teach people how to deal with hurricanes. As such, on Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 PM we have invited NOAA meteorologist Jeffry Evans, to come to the library and discuss some of these issues. With a lot of good information, like hurricane preparedness, a discussion on how much of an anomaly Hurricane Harvey was, and how weather watches work, this lecture is one that you are sure to want to attend.

As part of the TGIF Programs Demo Series and in celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Clear Lake City-County Freeman Branch Library proudly welcomes back local artist, Shaheen J. Rahman, on Friday, May 4 at 10:30 AM.

Shaheen enjoys the water-based medium known as “Ebru”, the ancient Turkish art of paper-marbling. This fascinating technique involves painting on the surface of water using a stylus, as well as combs and rakes. Exquisite patterns can be made with these tools which can include stylized flora and fauna. The painting is then transferred onto paper. Shaheen also likes to incorporate Arabic calligraphy into her Ebru for a wider variety of expression through this medium.

Re Opening Soon!

We are happy to announce that the Barbara Bush Library will be reopening on Monday, May 14th at 1pm. It's been a long road from August 2017 when Hurricane Harvey put us out of commission, but we are back and ready to serve the community again.

There will be a grand opening planned for June 2018. Details on that will be coming soon!

We can't wait to see you all again!
