This Week at the Library

This week begins our summer reading program here at the Kingwood Library! This Tuesday our regularly scheduled Toddler Time will be replace with Kindermusik @ 10 AM.  Lapsit Storytime is @ 11:15 AM on Tuesday and @ 11 AM on Thursday. Preschool Storytime will be @ 11 AM on Wednesday. We also have our Family Storytime presented on Saturday @10:30 AM where you can enjoy stories and a craft with your whole family!

LIBRARIES ROCK! 

MONDAY we have our Summer Kick Off Party @ 6 PM. There will be information about the Summer Reading Program, places to get signed up online, and a movie on the lawn @ 7:15 PM. Bring a blanket, and some bug spray, and sing along with us! 

Teen Summer Reading Kick-Off & Tie-Dye War!

The 2018 Summer Reading Program is about to begin! This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock.” Come start things off with a Teen Summer Reading Kick-Off and Movie Night on June 4th starting at 4:00 PM, in the Teen Room. Sign up for a Summer Reading account, get information on upcoming Teen programs and prizes, make your own guitar picks, play Rock Band, video games, and more!

The fun does not stop there. At 6:00 PM, in the Teen Game Room, enjoy the movie, School of Rock, with some delicious popcorn and snacks.

Then, join us for our 6th annual Tie-Dye War! Beat the summer heat by pelting your friends with dye-filled squish balls on Wednesday, June 6, at 2:00 PM, outside by the flagpoles.

Permission slips are required and can be picked up from the library starting on June 1. Holi dye powder WILL stain clothes and may temporarily stain skin.

All programs are for teens and tweens entering grades 6-12.

Ready, Set, Rock!

Summer reading is here again and, as the theme suggests, it's going to rock! Registration starts in just 3 days on June 4th and La Porte will be kicking it off with a banging beginning of summer party at 3 pm with music, entertainment and snacks. You can check out our events calendar here, for a list of everything we're offering this summer, as well as information about the reading club itself and how to earn points towards cool prizes. We, as all as 16 other branches, will also be offering free meals provided by the Houston Food Bank.

Marsha's Petting Zoo at Maud Marks

Marsha's ZooMonday, June 4, 2018 is the first day of HCPL's Summer Reading Program. Come see some cute animals and help Maud Marks Library kick off SRP 2018! Marsha's Petting Zoo will be here June 4th from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

Teens: Celebrate Summer with Candy, Geodes, and K-Pop!

School's out and the party is on at the library! On Tuesday, June 5th at 7pm, Club Anime presents Kawaii Candy. Make your favorite Japanese DIY candy kits and sample Japanese treats.

On Wednesday at 3pm, break open geodes at Geodes and Jewels! 

On Thursday, June 7th at 3pm, join us for K-Pop Club! Listen to the latest hits, make a special craft, and taste Korean snacks.

Club Anime is for ages 13-18, Geodes and Jewels and Kpop Club is for grades 6-12. 

Genre Challenge Coming to the Maud Marks Library

It's almost here!  Libraries Rock! 2018 Summer Reading Program Starts THIS Monday, June 4.  The Maud Marks Library is prepared!  We have all kinds of fun things going on this summer.  Movie buff?  We will be showing movies every Friday.  Technology Buff?  Our computer and technology classes are on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Have an elementary aged child?  Check out our Elementary Book Club every other Wednesday or Afternoon Adventures on Mondays.  Teenager?  Teen time is every Thursday.  Top it off with our regularly offered Storytimes, Book Clubs, and other adult programs.  There is something for EVERYONE this summer.  Click here to see what we have to offer.

HCPL Summer Program runs from June 4 - August 4.
Help North Channel reach our goal of 1000 babies, kids, teens, and adults registered and completed for the program this summer.

Poetry by the Bay: Poetry Reading by WiVLA: Saturday, June 9, 10:30 am. Members of Women in the Visual and Literary Arts of Houston will read their original poetry. Antiques Fair at the Library: Saturday, June 23, 10 am – noon. Bring an antique or collectible (or a photo of the item) to La Porte Community Library, 600 S. Broadway St., La Porte. Antique Dealers and Appraisers from Vicki’s Antiques on Main will be on hand to assess the item. Free. No registration required.

The History of Red Wolves in La Porte: Saturday, June 30, 10:30 am. Did you know that a relatively short time ago the now endangered red wolf species lived in La Porte? Hear guest speaker Edward Craven tell the fascinating history of the red wolf and his own memories of the animal from his childhood in La Porte. Appropriate for all ages! Free. Summer Reading Program Software Presentation

Are you excited for Harris County Public Library's Summer Reading Program? This summer's theme is Libraries Rock! and the program will begin on June 4th. Throughout the summer we will be having many activities for all ages, as well as fun prizes participants can receive for reading. We will be having two presentations that will show you how to log your books and minutes read using our Summer Reading Program software in order to help you become familiar with the program. We invite all ages to attend our Summer Reading Program Software Presentation next Thursday May 31 at 5:00 PM, or in Spanish on Wednesday May 30 at 5:00 PM. We will provide information on how to create your account and record your reading and activities to get points for your prizes.
