AARP Tax Assistance at the Northwest Branch Library

Every year, the Harris County Public Library partners with AARP  to offer free in-person tax assistance through trained volunteers. AARP Volunteers will be in the Northwest Branch Library Community room on:

  • Fridays: 1:00pm-5:00pm
  • Saturdays: 10:00am-2:00pm
  • Duration: February, March, and part of April

 Assistance is provided on a first come, first serve basis and customers are asked to bring all applicable paperwork.  Customers who are interested in receiving assistance should bring:

It's Tax Time Again!

Yes, it is that time again, TAX TIME, and Baldwin Boettcher is happy to announce that AARP is here once again to provide free tax preparation through April 18th.  Here are the days and hours they will be here:

Mondays 1 pm to 5 pm

Wednesdays 12 noon to 5 pm

Fridays 1 pm to 5 pm

Saturdays 11 am to 4 pm

AARP Tax Aide

taxesApril 18th will be here before you know it, so why not get a jump on your taxes? AARP is back at the library this year and ready to help individuals with simple tax returns. Assistance is on a first come first serve basis, so get here early to secure your spot. AARP Tax Aide begins Wednesday, February 1, and will be provided on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm and Saturdays from 11:00am-3:00pm until April 17.

Please bring these items with you:

  • 1. Valid identification with current address for yourself & your dependents
  • 2. Social security cards for yourself and your dependents
  • 3. Your wage, salary and income statements (W2 and/or 1099)
  • 4. Last year's income tax return statement
  • 5. If you are a homeowner, the amount of property tax paid in 2016
  • 6. If you bought a new vehicle (or anything of high value, i.e., a ring, a boat, etc.) in 2016, the amount of sales tax you paid or the value of the item
  • 7. Documentation for deductible expenses (mortgage interest, real estate taxes paid, medical expenses, charitable contributions, mileage for volunteer work)
  • 8. Documentation for items that qualify for tax credit (child care, post-secondary education, home purchase contract & closing statement for homes purchased in the past year)

Tax Forms + Tax Assistance

Tax Forms & Booklets are in! We have the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms and booklets.

If you need additional forms/publications, they can be printed by visiting irs.gov/forms or you can order them by calling 1-800-829-3676.

Starting Feb. 4th, AARP will be providing free tax help. Tax help is on a first come, first serve basis. They will be here on Mondays from 1pm-8pm and Saturdays from 10am-4pm. AARP will be located in our Earl Elliott Meeting Room. 

Tax Forms Are In

It's that time of year again. We have received the three basic forms for filing your tax returns: 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ.. We also have information on the area locations for Tax Assistance provided by AARP.

Countdown to the End of Tax Season!

April has arrived and the end of tax season is looming!  Have you turned in your tax returns yet?  Don't worry, Maud Marks Library and AARP have you covered.  You still have 5 chances  to get your taxes done.  AARP will be here today, Friday, April 8, Monday, April 11, Friday, April 15, AND Monday, April 18.  All times are 10 AM- 2 PM.  

Don't wait until the last minute, get yours filed today!

Still in the Heart of Tax Season

Yes, the Maud Marks Library is closed tomorrow and AARP will not be here to help with tax returns.  Don't worry though!  There is plenty of time left in the tax season this year.  In fact, due a holiday in Washington D.C., your taxes are not due until April 18.  That means AARP will continue to be out here on Mondays and Fridays through April 18.  You can come get your returns done on a first come, first served basis on Mondays March 28, April 4, 11, and 18 AND Fridays April 1, 8, and 15.

FREE TAX HELP WITH AARP

There are only a few weeks left to get your taxes done.  The AARP Volunteers will be at the Katy Branch Library on Tuesdays, March 22, March 29, April 5, and April 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help you file your taxes.  Help is available on a first come, first served basis.  Please arrive by 3:00 p.m. to ensure your place in line.

TAX TIME

We have received the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms and instruction booklets.  They are located in the library lobby.  The AARP volunteers will be here on Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help you prepare your taxes.  It is a first come, first served basis, so be prepared to wait.  Please be here by 3:00 p.m. to ensure your place in line.

Looking for Income Tax Help?

It's that time again! W-2s are in and everyone's gearing up to get their income taxes filed and sent before the April deadline. If you are looking for forms, the Barbara Bush Library has a select few:
