For all those who love monster movies and sci-fi, Pacific Rim is the perfect mash up. While watching the film, we are going to make kawaii (cute) Kaiju with puffy paint. Join us in the Library Community Room for snacks, drinks, craft, and fun.
 

 

TeenMakers: Robotics Edition

Are you a teen who's interested in learning more about coding and about robotics? Our TeenMakers this week is your chance. Teens and tweens in 6th grade and up are invited to come explore the world of robotics with LEGO Mindstorms.

This is a ticketed program from 3:30 - 4:40 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Tickets will be available beginning at 3:15 PM. Come have fun and MAKE something.

Teen Takeout - March 6-18

Feeling a bit crafty and want to geek out? To celebrate Teen Tech Week, a Teen Takeout craft will be available to pick up at any time during March 6 - 18, while supplies last. Make your own Floppy Disk Notepad! Ask the upstairs reference desk for your free take-home kit, which includes all supplies and instructions.

teenMAKER: 3D Holograms - March 6 @ 4:30

Celebrate Teen Tech Week by creating your own 3D Hologram image. Come by the Teen Area on Monday, March 6, from 4:30-5:30 PM, to make your own 3D hologram image using a cell phone or tablet. Don’t have your own device, no worries! There will be iPADs available to borrow during the program.

Teen Button Battle - March 6-18

This month’s button battle is for all the manga fans! Who will win the battle between Fruits Basket versus Naruto? Come by the Teen Area at any time between March 6-18 to pick up your button that casts your vote.

What is a button battle? It’s where teens vote on two or more of their favorite fandoms by taking a button they can pin to a backpack or anything else. The fandom that has the most buttons taken (aka “votes”), they are the one that wins!

Makey Makey at Teen Tech Week!

makey makeyHey teens! Ever wonder what it would be like to play a video game using only bananas and a computer? Stop by the library during Teen Tech Week and find out! We will be using Makey Makey kits to design circuits, use silly key pads, and play computer games. 

There will be two Makey Makey sessions available during Teen Tech Week: Monday, March 6 from 1:00-2:30pm OR Wednesday, March 8 from 5:00-6:30pm. These programs are for teens and tweens, ages 10 and up. Space is limited in each session and registration is required. Register in person at the reference desk or by calling the library.

Black History Movie of the Week

Please join us this Friday, February 24, from 2:30-4:30 pm, for this week’s Black History movie. On December 1, 1955, a brave Alabama woman refused to give up her seat on a city bus and was arrested as a result. In response, for over 12 months, the local African-American population refused to use the city bus system. Come and witness the events that brought Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to the forefront of the American Civil Rights movement.

Teen 3D Printer Open Lab - Feb. 21 @ 4:30 PM

Do you want to learn how to use a 3D printer and design objects to print out? Teens can come by and work at their own pace to learn the basics of TinkerCAD, an online 3D design website,  and to create their own 3D objects to print out. Open Lab will be held on Tuesday, February 21, from 4:30-5:30 PM, in the Computer Lab.

The 3D printer open lab is part of Codename Gener8, a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-focused program for teens.

“Showtime at the Apollo” Talent Show!

MicrophoneOn Thursday, February 23, at 5:30 pm, the Aldine Branch Library will present <drum roll, please> the “Showtime at the Apollo” Talent Show! If you can sing, play an instrument, tell jokes (clean ones), do a skit, dance or anything else the rest of us can’t do, this is your chance to show off your talent! Participants must be at least 13 years of age and are responsible for bringing their own equipment. There will be a time limit, and you do need to register with the library staff in advance. We know there are talented people in the neighborhood. Show yourselves!

Teen #MondayMovie - February 20 @ 2:30 PM

Come by the meeting room on your school holiday, Monday, February 20, at 2:30 PM, to enjoy the movie Remember the Titans in honor of Black History Month. This movie is based on the true story about Herman Boone, the newly appointed African American High School Football coach, during the high school’s first year of integration in the year in 1971. Enjoy snacks too!
