Teens: Get Your Game On @ the Library

So what is G.O.A.T.: Gaming on a Table? It's a teen program that focuses on tabletop gaming, rpgs (Role Playing Games), and CCGs (Collectible Card Games). We have games on hand but you are also welcome to bring your own games and handheld devices (Switch, 3DS, etc.). We meet the last Thursday of the month at 6pm. No sign up is required but we do ask that participants be ages 12-18 years old. So join us for an evening of gaming!

Barbara Bush Holiday Gathering

Join us for a Holiday Gathering on Saturday, December 2nd from 1pm to 3pm at the Cypress Creek Christian Church & Community Center (across from the library). 

We will have food, crafts, music, and Santa will be making a visit. You can check out and return books as well as get a library card. Bring the kids and join us for a fun afternoon! 

 

Aldine Library, November 20-22

Cork ornaments[En español abajo] In case you’re wondering, the library will be open our normal hours on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 20- 21. (Monday, 1-8pm, and Tuesday, 10am-7pm.)  On Wednesday, we will be open 1-5pm. We will be closed for Thanksgiving Thursday-Sunday.
We have a lot to offer you on Monday and Tuesday, though!
Our Technology Specialist will teach an Introduction to Microsoft Word class from 5:00-6:30 pm on Monday (in Spanish) and Tuesday (in English).
We will have a special class at 4pm on Monday to show how to get ready for the US Citizenship Test using the USCIS app or the library’s free ProCitizen database.
At Krafty Korner, on Tuesday at 1pm, we will be making ornaments from wine corks. Supplies are limited, so registration is required.

Teen DIY and a Movie – Wonder Woman (PG-13) and Wonder T-Shirt November 20th @ 2:30 PM [13+]

For any teens who embody truth, justice, or are on Thanksgiving Break, the Parker Williams Branch is hosting a special mid-day Teen DIY and a Movie presentation of Wonder Woman in the Library Community Room on November 20th at 2:30 PM.

While watching the movie, we will be designing Wonder Woman t-shirts, including a gold Wonder Woman inspired iron on.

Materials and snacks generously provided by the Friends of The Parker Williams Library.

Everyone - Monday, 11/20 @ 3 PM - NaNoWriMo Write-In!

 

November is National Novel Writing Month! In support of NaNoWriMo, the library will host write-ins for aspiring authors. Bring your laptop, journal, or any other writing tools you need to work on your novel!

Teens: Find Your Place in the Sun with NASA @ My Library

Teens, what do you know about the sun? Explore how the sun affects our lives, bodies, and the Earth through experimentation. Create a UV reactive wristband and other projects on Thursday, November 16th at 4:30pm.

Teens! Tournament of Books Is Coming Soon!

Enjoy reading? Like competition? Join the Harris County Public Library system for Tournament of Books!

Tournament of Books is a reading competition for students in grades 9-12 or ages 14-17.

Participants will work with a team to read a set list of books. Teams will then compete doing review games about the books at library book parties! Book parties will take place in December, January, February, and March. In March, the top team from the Spring Branch-Memorial Library will also compete against teams from the other Harris County libraries in the final battle for the championship.

To register, visit the Spring Branch-Memorial Library at 930 Corbindale Road and pick up an application. Completed applications are due by December 15. If you attend Memorial High School, you can also pick up an application at your school library.

Basic Life Skills – Situational Awareness November 15th @ 5 PM [12+]

When you leave your house, do you scan your neighborhood?

Can you spot a stranger?

How do you know if they are following you?

These aren’t super spy skills. They are basic principles of situational awareness.

Join us at 5 PM on November 15th in the Library Community Room to learn some basic strategies of keeping situationally aware and safe in the world.

Teen Movie

This Friday, November 10th,  we will be starting a new program at the Katy Library.  We will show a movie for teens or have an afternoon of video gaming every Friday at 3:30pm.   Our first selection will be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a Warner Brothers Film.  This movie is intended for teens and is rated PG-13.
