Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+] - Monday, March 19 from 6-7:30 PM

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on March 19th on the Library Floor for game play from 6-7:30 PM. For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

Spring Break for Teens at the Library: Murder Mysteries and 3D Printing

Staying at home this spring break? Want something fun to do? Visit the Spring Branch-Memorial Library for our special teen programs, including murder mysteries and 3D printing!

magnifying glassOn Monday, March 12 and Friday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., we’ll host a murder mystery brunch for teens (grades 6-12). You’ll be able to enjoy breakfast foods and hone your detective skills while you solve a mystery, hosted by The Murder Mystery Company, all while the library is closed!

On Tuesday, March 13 from 4 to 5 p.m., we’ll host a special 3D printing program for teens (grades 6-12). Join us to learn about 3D printing from a Harris County Public Library’s maker programming specialist. We’ll even have a 3D printer for you to see in operation!    No registration is required for this event.

Community Craft – Beading Bracelets [All Ages] - Thursday, March 15 at 3 PM

 

If you are looking for something to do for Spring Break, join us on Thursday, March 15th at 3 PM in the Library Community Room to learn some basic beading techniques as you will construct your own beaded bracelets. All ages, children and adults, are welcome.

STEM Time – Fibonacci’s Number [7+] - Wednesday, March 14 at 3 PM

In nature, there is a repeating pattern that we can see in a variety of places.

It is sometimes found in a parallel roll in computer programing and technology.

On Wednesday, March 14th join us in the Library Community Room at 5 PM to learn about the fascinating places we can find Fibonacci’s number. 

Teens & Tweens, Arduino to Control Things!

ArduinoArduino is a program and microcontroller kit for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical world, like motors and lights. Come and get hands-on experience using it! Friday, March 9, 4:00-5:30 pm.
Also, create wall art, garland, or gift tags using old maps and Scrabble tiles. Thursday, March 15, 4:30-5:30 pm.

Teen Tech Week: Explore Virtual Reality

VR headsetEscape into the world of virtual reality at the Spring Branch-Memorial Library!  Celebrate Teen Tech Week by learning about virtual reality from a VR expert. You’ll get to try out VR for yourself with some hands-on demonstrations.  You can even walk away with your very own virtual reality smartphone headset!

Special thanks to Mr. Eric Liga and the HoustonVR group for their help in hosting this program.

Age: Grades 6-12

Registration is required and is now open in the library. A parent or guardian must come to the library to sign a waiver for each participant prior to registering. 

Drone Flying Club [8 to Adult] - Monday, March 12 at 5 PM

The South Belt Ellington area has always been an innovative location for the expansion of aerospace.

With a grant from the Parker Williams and Harris County Friends of the Library, we have been able to purchase the equipment to begin our own drown flying club.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to fly a quadcopter, you can learn right here at the Parker Williams Branch Library on the second and fourth Monday from 5 PM to 6 PM. 

Sounds of Science Makey Makey Rockout Session [11+] - Wednesday, March 7 at 5 PM

 

For Teen Tech Week, we are bringing you a sonic sensation.

 

You will hear the Sounds of Science! Join us in the Library Community Room at 5 PM on Wednesday, March 7th as we rock out using the Makey Makey Invention Kit to make our own version of Guitar Hero.
