PoetryCome discuss some good reads with fellow teens at the Spring Branch-Memorial Library while you eat pizza! As always, we will also have giveaways at our book club.

This month’s topic is a secret! Come to the book club to discover our surprise genre. You don’t even need to read anything ahead of time!

VR Gamenight at the Blue Beetle Cafe [13+] - Wednesday, June 6th at 6 PM

 

Kicking off our Teen Programs for the summer, we will be hosting a VR Gamenight at the Blue Beetle Café at 6 PM on June 6th.

The Blue Beetle Café has a backpack VR rig that plays a variety of different games like Fruit Ninja that pops the fruit right in front of your face so you can slice it in half.

The Blue Beetle Café is located at 10904 Scarsdale Blvd #210, Houston, TX 77089 next to the CVS on the east side of Beamer. 

Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+] - Saturday, May 26 from 2-4 PM

 

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on May 26th on the Library Floor for game play from 2-4 PM.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

Join us on May 21st on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play from 6-7:30 PM.

Teen DIY and a Movie – Spaceballs (PG-13) and Spaceballs The Craft [13+] - Friday, May 18th at 4 PM

Star Wars is a multi-generational saga with audience members from younglings to Jedi Masters.

But, what is a successful franchise without a satire that pokes fun?

Join us on Friday, May 18th at 4 PM for the 1980’s Star Wars satire Spaceballs in the Library Community Room.

And, you want to make sure that you stay to complete Spaceballs The Craft.

Free Preparation for All Kinds of Tests

TestAnother one of Harris County Public Library’s many electronic resources is Learning Express Library. Not only does it offer test preparation for the tests that you would expect, like the GED, SAT, and ACT, it also covers an amazing variety of occupational exams, the ASVAB, AP exams, various STAAR tests, the US Citizenship test, and many more. They also have skill building components for math, science, reading, grammar, and writing. In addition, there are career-building components like searching for jobs, internships, colleges, and careers and tools for getting hired, and skills and strategies to help students succeed in college. Come to our computer lab on Saturday, May 12, at 10 am, and let us show you how to access these great resources.

Drone Flying Club [8 to Adult] - Monday, May 14th at 5 PM

 

The South Belt Ellington area has always been an innovative location for the expansion of aerospace.

With a grant from the Parker Williams and Harris County Friends of the Library, we have been able to purchase the equipment to begin our own drown flying club.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to fly a quadcopter, you can learn right here at the Parker Williams Branch Library on the second and fourth Monday from 5 PM to 6 PM.

Anime Club – Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (TV-PG) [10+] - Friday, May 11th at 5 PM

To keep in the spirt of the Star Wars universe, we are going to be showing episodes from the modernized Star Blazers series Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

Much like Leia’s mission to pass on the Death Star’s plans, the Yamato is the last beacon of hope for earth on a mercy mission to Iscandar for the fabled device that will save the earth.

Join us in the Library Community Room for a spaced out time on Friday, May 11th at 5 PM.
