Program: The History of the Moon

Apollo 11 Lunar Module from NASA Space Science Data Coordinated ArchiveWhere were you on July 21, 1969, when Neil Armstrong first stepped foot on the moon? Or were you not yet born? Come to our program on The History of the Moon this Saturday, July 22 at 10:30 am to help celebrate that historic event! Walter Kiefer, a scientist with the Lunar and Planetary Institute, will tell us—in layman’s terms—what we learned about the moon’s history through the Apollo program. He will also tell us about more recent NASA missions to the moon. This program is open to all ages, though the subject matter will appeal more to older elementary kids through 110-year olds.

Basic Life Skills – Barbequing July 24th @ 3 PM [13+]

 

 

Barbequing has been attributed to many different cultures. It is believed that pirates are credited with the first origins of barbequing. Join the pirate tradition on July 24th at 3 PM in the Library Community Room to learn how to safely char some meat me mateys!

Teen #MovieMonday - July 17 @ 1:30 PM

Teens! Come by the meeting room on Monday, July 17, at 1:30 PM, to enjoy the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Discover another wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling about Newt Scamander, a wizard living in New York, years before the Harry Potter books take place.

But wait! There's More!

The teens had a lot of fun last night solving the riddles and deciphering clues to find the loot in our Escape Room Challenge! Both groups solved their way to a sweet and yummy reward.

Did you miss all the excitement last night? Don’t worry, there are still many more teen events coming up in July and August. You can watch movies, make your own journal light up with LED’s, or build a Mechanical Hand. Then, on Friday, July 29 at 6:00 PM, be sure to come to our Teen Harry Potter Lock-In! We’ll have prizes, games, crafts, and food! Permission slip is required, pick one up at the upstairs reference desk today!

Family Chess Club - July 15 @ 1:00 PM

Whether you are learning, expanding your knowledge, or just want to have fun, come by our Family Chess Club! Chess Club will on Saturday, July 15, from 1:00-3:00 PM, in the Meeting Room.

The Parker Williams Branch Anime Club is continuing our summer session with an extended binge watching edition of playing the as many of mini-series FLCL (Fooly Cooly) (TV-14). Can we watch all the episodes? I think we can!

Family Activity Fair

Teen Escape Room Challenge - July 13 @ 6:30 PM

If you like riddles or just want to test your mind against our codes and puzzles, we challenge you to ESCAPE the ROOM! Break out with time to spare and see just how much loot you can get out with. The fun starts on Thursday, July 13, at 6:30 PM in the Teen Room. (Once the program has started, late arrivals may not be able to participate.)

Teen Button Battle - July 10-22

Harry Potter Lock-In is on Friday, July 28! To prepare, come by the Teen Room between July 10-22 to pick up the button that shows off your true Hogwarts house colors!

What is a button battle? It’s where teens vote on two or more of their favorite fandoms by taking a button they can pin to a backpack or anything else. The fandom that has the most buttons taken (aka “votes”), they are the one that wins!
