ANIME CLUB

The Katy Library Anime Club will meet on Thursday, May 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Join other teens and tweens to get the latest news in the anime world, discuss your favorite manga, watch some anime and play some games.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Summer is coming up quickly and the Barbara Bush Library is in need of volunteers to help during the summer. We are in need of volunteers to help us shelve during various days and times throughout the week. 

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age or older and able to commit to at least 2 hours of service a week. Training is made available for all new volunteers.

You can also download an application by going to HCPL's Volunteer Page. Once you complete the application, drop it off at the Barbara Bush Library and we will contact you regarding volunteering! 

Join Us for Our 2nd Know Your Muslim Neighbor Event on 5/27!

Freeman Library and the Muslim American Society welcome you to join us for for our second "Know Your Muslim Neighbor Neighbor" Event on Saturday, 5/27 in the Marge Jacobson Community Room. We open the doors at 11:30 AM and invite people of all ages to learn historical facts about Islam and America! Please come, experience, and enjoy:

• Henna Art
• Crafts for the kids
• Write your name in Arabic
• Brief presentations throughout about the Muslim community
• Islamic music

STEM Time – Ocean Waves and Ancient Travelers May 17th @ 5 PM [8+]

 

Have you ever wondered how people ever came to the various islands of the Pacific Ocean? What waves, technology, and navigation took them their?

Join us to learn about ocean waves, ancient navigation, and the different craft used by ancient seafarers to travel the Pacific islands in the Library Community Room on May 17th at 5 PM.

Teen 3D Printer Open Lab - May 11 @ 6:30 PM

Teens can come by our 3D Printer Open Lab to learn the basics of TinkerCAD, an online 3D design website, to create their own 3D objects to print out. The Open Lab will be held on Thursday, May 11, from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Computer Lab.

The 3D printer open lab is part of Codename Gener8, a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-focused program for teens.

Teen Sashiko Sewing & Anime Club - May 9 @ 4:30

Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month by learning Sashiko, a Japanese stitching technique, to create a beautiful sewing masterpiece of your own. Class will take place during Anime Club on Tuesday, May 9, from 4:30-5:30 PM. Watch anime and sew!

South Side Roller Derby Meet and Greet May 13th @ 1:30PM [7+]

Victoria Jamieson’s graphic novel Roller Girl is the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Award Winner, Newbery Honor Award Winner, and an inspiration for all those kids that are growing up and don’t quite know how to fit in.

On May 13th at 1:30, come and meet some real live Roller Girls from the South Side Roller Derby.

 

Learn the sport for our local heroes at the Parker Williams Library at 1:30 PM on May 13th.

Teen Button Battle - May 8 - 20

Which Marvel Superhero team has the most dedicated followers? Who will win the battle between Guardians of the Galaxy versus The Avengers? Come by the Teen Area any time between May 8-20 to pick up your button that casts your vote.

What is a button battle? It’s where teens vote on two or more of their favorite fandoms by taking a button they can pin to a backpack or anything else. The fandom that has the most buttons taken (aka “votes”), they are the one that wins!
