HCPHES Mobile Pet Adoption June 17th @ 3 PM [All Ages]

The Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Mobile Adoption Unit will be coming to the Parker Williams Branch on Saturday, June 17th from 11:30 AM to 3 PM.

You can come over and visit with the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that they have available for adoption. For any questions about adoption requirements, please contact the Veterinary Public Health Division at (281) 999-3191.

If you have any questions about dog and cat food, training, or other products, representatives from our local Petco will be available to answer any questions.

Teen Gaming Tournament - June 12 @ 1:30 PM

Calling all gamers! Do you have what it takes to finish the fight? A Super Smash Bros Wii Tournament will be held this coming Monday, June 12, at 1:30 PM, in the Teen Game Room. Join the brawl for a chance to win a trophy!

Teen Summer Volunteers Needed!

The Katy Branch Library at 5414 Franz Road in old Katy will be having two orientations for teen summer volunteers. The Teen Volunteer Program is open to high school students and will run from June 5-August 5th. Each volunteer is required to attend one training orientation, either Friday, June 9th from 10am-12pm or Wednesday, June 14th, from 10am-12pm. Please come pick up an application packet at the branch and bring completed to either session. If you have any questions, please contact Misty Wright at 281-391-3509.

Design, Make, and Take: Team Logos

Team LogoDo you like the logos for the Houston Texans, or the Astros, or Rockets team? Have you ever wanted to make your own design to call your own? Teens and Tweens, ages 10 and up (5th grade or higher), join us today in the public meeting room at 4:30 PM for a Team Logo program. Create your own design and turn it into a button you can wear to all the upcoming Teen Summer Reading Competition Programs.

2017 Summer ReadingSummer is here! That means it’s time for HCPL’s Summer Reading Program. Everybody from babies to old folks can join in by (1) registering on our web site, (2) logging books that you read and activities that you do, and (3) getting rewards! Also, pick up a calendar of events at the library or check out our online calendar to see what fun activities we have available for you this summer.

Kid’s Café - Free Lunches for Kids

Food bankThis summer, HCPL and the Houston Food Bank are offering free lunches on certain days of the week for children age 18 and under. At the Aldine location, we offer lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:00-1:00 pm, while supplies last. All children are welcome.

Recycling Robot Contest

The theme for our Summer Reading Program this year is "Build a Better World!" Join us on Thursday, June 15, 2017 @ 3 pm and do your part by participating in this fun, team building, creative activity.  This contest is a great way for teens to create something out of items such as bottles, cans, cardboard, etc that would ordinarily go into the recycling box or the landfill.  Prior registration is required in person at the library or by phone at 713-941-2385.  Participants must be between the ages of 12 to 17 years of age.  Teams of 4 will be created on the day of the contest and will be allowed a maximum of 1.5 hours to create their robot.

PRACTICE SAT/ACT

Take the SAT or ACT before you take it! The Princeton Review is offering a practice exam at the library. Exams will be graded and scores released at a later time. The SAT will be held June 17 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the ACT held July 15 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Teen Tie-Dye War - June 6 @ 2:00 PM

Join us for our 5th annual Tie-Dye War! Beat the summer heat by pelting your friends with dye-filled squish balls on Tuesday, June 6, at 2:00 PM. Permission slips are required and can be picked up at the library anytime before the event starts. Holi dye powder WILL stain clothes and may temporarily stain skin.
