Magic: The Gathering Gameplay [8+] - Saturday, September 22nd from 2-4 PM

 

Magic: The Gathering is a dueling card game from Wizards of the Coast.

It incorporates strategy, mythical lore, and competitive-community play.

Join us on the first and third Mondays from 6PM -7:30PM and the second and forth Saturday from 4PM – 6PM on the Library Floor for a few hours of game play.

For those who would like to learn how to play, a staff member will be present to teach you.

Journal Group

Everyone is invited to this beginner's writing group. Participants write a few pages each time in response to suggested prompts, and share if they wish in an informal setting.

Journal Group will be meeting on Monday, September 17th at 1:30pm.

Community Craft – Bead Keychain or Bracelet [7+] - Thursday, September 20th at 4 PM

 

 

 

Join us at the Parker Williams Branch Library on September 20th at 4 PM in the Library Community Room for our Community Craft.

This month, we will be making pony bead bracelets and keychains. 

Rain, Rain, Go Away! (And I Mean It!)

 You should come to the library this week. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Despite all the rain, it really is worth it to come to the library. Yes, it’s wet and terrible, but it’s been raining for at least two weeks solid. The time for excuses has to end, even if it is hard to admit it.

To help you out, we have a lot of fun activities coming up at the library, which will give you the time to enjoy yourself in a free, indoor environment. That’s right. You get to be inside, you don’t have to pay anything, and our events are a guaranteed blast. Here’s some of them:

Scratch Coding for Middle Schoolers

Learn basic coding with Scratch! Scratch is a programming language developed by MIT where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations. This program will be on Thursday, September 20, from 4:45-6:00 PM in the Computer Lab. Registration is required and opens on September 13, at 10:00 AM. Please call or register online.

For middle school teens and tweens in grades 6-8.

It's Book Club Week @ at Library!

Calling all adults and teens! It's book club week! This Thursday at 1pm our adult book club, Lunch 'n' Lit will be discussing How to Stop Time by Matt Haig so bring your lunch and enjoy some lively discussion. 

Also on Thursday, Teen Book Club will be discussing banned books at 4:30pm. You can read any banned book of your choice and join us to find out why the book was challenged. You can also make a tote bag with you favorite literary quote. Snacks will be provided.

Teen Advisory Group & Dumbledore's Army

     

Teens! What programs do you want to attend at the library? Anime Club? Dungeons & Dragons Group? Crafts, 3D Design, Robotics, something else? If you’re a teen and interested in earning volunteer hours at the library by helping with programs, then the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is the place to be! Join TAG and meet up with other teens to work together to help plan teen programs, decorate the teen room, and make buttons for the monthly button battles. This month’s meeting will be on Monday, September 10, from 4:45-5:45 PM. We meet in the Teen Game Room.

Also this week, are you a fan of Harry Potter? Then join Dumbledore's Army, a the new monthly program that focuses on all things Harry Potter. Each month we solemnly swear to discuss favorite HP books and movies while either crafting, playing games, watching a movie, or anything else we think up relating to the Wizarding World. First meeting will meet on Thursday, September 13, from 6:15-7:15 PM in the Room of Requirement (Teen Room).

For teens and tweens in grades 6-12.

Anime Club Classic – Trigun (TV-14) [12+] - Friday, September 14th from 4 PM to 6 PM

There have been so many good shows released in anime throughout the years. In response to a rise in interest, we are adding session of Anime Club dedicated to the Classics.

These are Anime that have passed the test of time and captured fan boy/girl hearts over the years.

On September 14th from 4-6PM, we’ll be delving into the harsh world of Vash the Stampede.

There will be revolvers, cyborgs, and Pocky in the Library Community Room. Love and Peace!

Throwback Atari Party featuring Ready Player One [13+] - Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 PM

Calling all 80s fanatics! The Parker Williams Branch Library is going to be hosting a Throwback Atari Party for all you going back to school.

We’ll be playing classic Atari games, making 8-Bit Art of the different video games, and playing Name That Song as we have Ready Player One playing on our big screen.

We’ll spin you right round on September 12th at 6:30 PM in the Library Community Room.
