Girls Rule!

FriendsMarch is National Women's History Month. In celebration, I've compiled a list of books that portray fantastic females. The books are seperated into three categories: Picture Books, Fiction Books (Books for Older Readers), and Non-Fiction Books & Biographies. The stories all have a strong female characters that readers of all ages can appreciate! Check out the Amelia Bloomer Project for more suggestions! Enjoy... and keep on rockin', girls!

Sleep Tight Night Owls

I am going to tell you a secret that almost no one knows about me...  I adore owls!!! Needless to say, I have at least one owl themed storytime a year. Luckily, many children's authors  must also admire these wise little creature for there are several wonderful books in our system.

In case, you missed Family Storytime I thought that I would share a few of my favorite books with you.

Man's Best Friend

Dogs are often considered man's best friend. I happen to agree with that saying. I love dogs. I am the proud owner of the cutest cocker spaniel, Maggie May. She's the best dog in the world and is definitely my best friend!

I just finished a book told from the dog's point of view. It was a great read and so I thought I could share some more books about our loveable pets. Do you have any favorite dog books?

How far would you go to save your friends and family?

Wild West Tales

HOWDY BUCKAROOS, it's time to dust off your hat and mosey into town for The Houston Livestock and Rodeo. This event started yesterday and will run through March 21st.

Dr. Seuss

On March 2nd, Read Across America day will celebrate the life and works of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss.

As Kathleen's blog announced, celebrations will be held at all Harris County Public Libraries throughout the week.

I thought that it would be fun to list some of my favorite biographies on Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). His life was just as amazing as his books.

Read Across America Day

Harris County Public Library celebrates Read Across America Day with programs at all of our branches.  Programs may occur any day this week so check your branch's calendar to find out what they are doing.
