Man's Best Friend

Dogs are often considered man's best friend. I happen to agree with that saying. I love dogs. I am the proud owner of the cutest cocker spaniel, Maggie May. She's the best dog in the world and is definitely my best friend!

I just finished a book told from the dog's point of view. It was a great read and so I thought I could share some more books about our loveable pets. Do you have any favorite dog books?

Wild West Tales

HOWDY BUCKAROOS, it's time to dust off your hat and mosey into town for The Houston Livestock and Rodeo. This event started yesterday and will run through March 21st.

Dr. Seuss

On March 2nd, Read Across America day will celebrate the life and works of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss.

As Kathleen's blog announced, celebrations will be held at all Harris County Public Libraries throughout the week.

I thought that it would be fun to list some of my favorite biographies on Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). His life was just as amazing as his books.

Read Across America Day

Harris County Public Library celebrates Read Across America Day with programs at all of our branches.  Programs may occur any day this week so check your branch's calendar to find out what they are doing.

Read Across America Day is celebrated every year on March 2, Dr. Seuss' birthday. Created by the National Education Association, it is designed to promote the joy of reading.

President Washington

I promised to share a few of my favorite books on George Washington so here they are. Most of the items listed are found in the non-fiction or biography section of the library. That being said, I hope that you will check a few out and give them a try. Almost all the book on this list uses a picture book format, which children typically enjoy. The illustrations make a factual subject like history fun and inviting. By presenting information in this manner, it becomes more like a story. In return, children can better relate to the person or subject that is being presented.

Happy Birthday Jeff Smith!

This Saturday is Jeff Smith's birthday! What better time to familiarize yourself with the writer and illustrator of Bone? The series is widely popular and features the Bone cousins and their adventures outside of Boneville. The series is about growing up and leaving home and entails a number of adventures that you will surely enjoy and get a laugh from.

Trickster Tales

The stories of Anansi, the most famous spider in West Africa, have been passed down for generations.  B.O.L.T, the Atascocita Teen Advisory Board, is providing a puppet show this afternoon about this clever character.  Below are a few of my favorite trickster tales.
