Bluebonnet List Announced

 2010 - 2011 Texas Bluebonnet Award Books

This weekend, the 2010 - 2011 Texas Bluebonnet Award list was announced.  I have already requested several of the items, and you can too.  Remember, if you don't know how to place a item on hold, you can ask any library staff member for help.  We will walk you through the process, or place the hold for you.  Enjoy!

October/November Kids Newsletter

The October/November issue of the Kids Newsletter is available and features interviews with Miss Jen of the Stratford Branch Library and Mrs. V of the CyFair College Branch library.  There is also an article about the Coretta Scott King Award and a list of some of the new Children's books and audio we have added to our collection.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Choo! Choo!

Everyone loves a good book about transportation. It's a favorite theme among toddlers and preschoolers (especially boys) and it's no wonder why: the things move fast on the ground, in the sky, through the water and even into outer space. Planes, trains, automobiles, ships, and rockets have fantastic sound effects too. Can't you just hear your toddler screaming Vroom!, Beep!, Chugga-Chugga, Chugga-Chugga, Choo, Choo!, Whoosh!, Zoom! They crash, clank, honk their way to their desired destination. Here are some good picture books for your own collection:

More to try while waiting for Wimpy Kid

well, okay, you've already tried the books Miss Mary suggested in her blog for you to try while waiting for Wimpy Kid #4 to come, so here are even more to try while you're waiting (yay!). A couple of these are so new they still say "on order" in the catalog.

October author birthdays

Let's talk about birthdays. There are too many authors who were born in October to talk about all of them, so I'll just mention a few. RL Stine's birthday is October 8. He of course is the author of Goosebumps. Did you know RL Stine used to write joke books?

Wimpy Kid Madness!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Greg Heffley's Journal    Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodick Rules    Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw    Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days

Vampires, Mummies, Werewolves...Oh My!

Monstrous tales come from around the world of creatures that dwell in mysterious sites. Hidden from the light of day...until now. Below are some of the scariest monsters in history. Dare to read what most have kept unspoken.

Warning: These books are not for the faint of heart, and are not intended for young children.

Not for the Faint of Heart

Happy Halloween!

During October, many older children enjoy reading scary stories. I have collected a few items that I think you will enjoy. Please be aware, that these books are not for young children.

If you have a favorite scary book I would love to hear about it.  You can leave comments below, or come visit me at the library.  I love saying hi to my friends.
