A UNIVERSE OF STORIES!

Story Times at Northwest Branch Library

The Northwest Branch Library offers regular story times for our youngest customer. Story time is an excellent way to bond with your child, boost their vocabulary, and hopefully raise a lifelong reader. Studies have shown that regularly reading to your child can increase their attention span, boost their emotional intelligence, and flex their imagination. Story time programs include Baby Giggles & Baby Wiggles, Toddler Time, and Preschool Story Time. Join us for stories, songs, finger plays and playtime. Please be sure to pick up a ticket at Reference Desk 30 minutes in advance. To view the times and dates of active story time programs, please click here.

A UNIVERSE OF STORIES!

Exploration at Storytime

During Twilight Tales this week, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of first moon landing. But, then I asked the children to predict what happened next. Everyone agreed that the astronauts would have wanted to continue their work in space. We then discussed Apollo 12 and astronaut Alan Bean, who was the fourth person to walk on the moon -- this was my plan all along.

Throughout the summer, we have been working on concepts related to sequencing, predicting, estimating and summarizing. I wanted the children to have a chance to understand that although this was a truly amazing accomplishment it was not the end of NASA’s endeavor in space, nor did Alan Bean’s career begin or end with Apollo 12. During his lifetime he was a naval engineer, a test pilot, an astronaut and an artist.
