Beat the Heat @ HCPL

With temperatures often in the three digits these days, we invite you to cool off at any of our 25 branches. All branches have air conditioning and plenty of places to sit and relax. You might also want to peruse our collection of books, DVDs, and audios. This would also be a great time to take a free computer class or bring your child to storytime. All branches have a variety of programming this summer to help keep you cool.

County health officials offer these tips to keep cool:

Harris County Libraries Serve as Warming Centers

Residents seeking shelter from the frigid temperatures can head to their local library.  All 25 Harris County branch libraries will open at 9 am on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9 to serve as warming centers for the public.

Closing hours will vary depending on the branch.

What If There is No Discussion Guide for Your Book Club?

It is always helpful to have some starter discussion questions ready for your book club. Often you can find these at the back of your book, on a publisher's website, or on one of the reading group sites. But what do you do if none are available? The Reading Group Guides website offers some general questions that can be adapted to a wide variety of books, from biographies to mysteries to historical fiction.
